On what planet are we living on where Andy Wilkins provides value? He's a 27 year old non prospect that was absolute trash in his cup of coffee. He looked completely overwhelmed by MLB pitching. He struck out in half his 45 AB! Come on people.

Funny only three months ago, people couldn't understand why Dunn hadn't been released to make room for him.

Why? He has come pretty good stuff, just needs a bit of refinement, but could be a high leverage reliever in the not too distant future. A team with bullpen depth issues should not be quick to discard such an asset.

He is a young project who throws 100.

Guess I should have looked past his stats on the surface....boy do those sure look bad though.

He provides value in that, as the rosters are currently constructed, he is currently the #2 1B and probably the #1 DH on the team. Those will change in a matter of weeks, but he's blocking absolutely no one, and the guy hit 30 homers in the minors last year. He's also not the first guy to look overwhelmed by MLB pitching in his first call up either. He's obviously not going to have the career that Paul Konerko did, but Konerko put up a .214/.275/.326/.601 over his first 247 plate appearances before having an almost hall of fame career.

Frankly, I'm going to be surprised if Wilkins is DFA'd. I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded, but he's under control and he's young enough that he could still provide value as a bat off the bench.

And I don't disgaree that he's probably a AAAA player - I'm pretty sure I mentioned that and that I've always believed that - but that doesn't mean you get rid of him.

Not that it matters, but Garcia got placed at #19 on top 20 prospects list according to mlb.com

they also made some corrections to his profile. i posted his stats on page 3 of this

thread, now in the white sox page in MILB they have him with a fastball at 60.

the was a surprise.

He has, what, one more option left?

I like the bullpen additions so far.

Is Montas the closer of the future?

I think the Sox brass is still hoping for Montas to be a SP. I also think

Garcia needs at least 1 yr to recover from his injury and continue

to develop in the minors. in his profiles and tools, he just may be

the closer of the future. that is if all goes well.

Dan's write-up of the moves on FutureSox is here.

I'm kinda surprised that Saladino got protected. He's recovering from TJ and won't be ready until March or April, and doesn't really have any standout tools. I just don't see how anyone would claim him.

You'd actually be able to stash him on a DL for a while and get a free preview while he recovers from injury.

I don't understand the rules.

This guy was drafted in 2012 and pitched one inning in the majors.

He's not waiver-protected?

He was on the Dodgers 40-man roster. Because he was injured all year long, and the Dodgers wanted to free up an opening on their 40-man for a prospect (their reasons are their own), they felt they may be able to sneak Onelki Garcia through the waiver wire in able to outright him to AAA (thus, removing him from their roster but keeping him in the organization). They were unsuccessful.

This has nothing to do with service time and everything to do with the Dodgers being sneaky or misjudging the market and the White Sox capitalizing and retaining the rights to a guy who has a pretty live arm.

more than likely a GM name Hahn who is watching the waiver wire intensely.
