Sources: #Rays have made Matt Joyce available on trade market and have had some talks with other clubs. He is comparable to Jay Bruce.

Matt Joyce career OPS+: 118. Jay Bruce career OPS+: 111 . . . Bruce is about 2 years and 8 months younger.

Sabermetric context of Joyce/Bruce comp, h/t @TheFantasyFix: Joyce has higher WAR than Bruce over last 3 years. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...ayers=9892,3353

To be clear, not necessarily arguing for one player over the other. Bruce has hit more HR. But there is a legitimate discussion to be had.

I hear ya. I'm interested to see what happens on December 2 with non-tenders, but pitchers and catchers don't report for three months. Plenty o' time.

Oh, the agony. I'm off to continue my studies of the Oklahoma Song Bird.

OPS in the mid 700s and dropping each of the last 3 years. He'll be 30 next year.

Am I supposed to believe that's worth a top prospect?

Heck, go get Carl Crawford. He delivers the same; he's only 32 (seems like he's 40, he's been around so long). We could get him and a couple of good prospects for Alexei.

Work a 3 way to get Saunders out of Seattle; he's pretty good and could improve.

On the WAR comparisons, I note that both he and Bruce are both dreadful defensively. this is more boom/bust, pay for past performance, get likely less in future performance, again.

I actually think this could be a great fit for the rotating DH/OF model. But no, he's not worth a top prospect. Did Morosi say he'd cost a top prospect?

I believe there wasn't any mention of any cost what so ever.
