JoshPR
Just DFA'd by the rays.... Would anybody here take him as a backup? I Know he doe sn't hit much but what he does with pitchers and his defense is good, and does a lot of intangibles for pitchers. So strictly as backup and cheap, would you bite? Bob Sacamano
If Nieto was going to be the started and we didn't have Flowers I would say yes as a mentor but this isn't the case.
JoshPR
Ok, good arguement there. I just think this is a position that should be filled by a veteran. It always helps that's why those type of guys are still around
flavum
If it comes down to an older backup catcher, I'd be more for David Ross--but I hope it doesn't come down to that either. Edited November 22, 2014 by flavum
BlackSox13
I'd have to say no. He's a 39 year old catcher and a right handed bat that didn't hit well last year. I'm guessing but I think the Sox are looking for a LH bat to backup Flowers. Unless the Sox acquire a guy like Grandal, then the backup bat changes. Princess Dye
Wow, those 2014 stats. Vet leadership is one thing but backup catchers actually have to get at-bats all year
GreenSox
He'll be 40 next year and had an OPS of .417. Good lord. Flowers does all of the handle pitchers/throw out runner type work just fine anyway. Edited November 22, 2014 by GreenSox
max power
Good lord that's bad. Worse than adam dunn 2011 bad.
oldsox
There's a reason he was DFA'd by Rays. Someone stuck a fork in him. He'll make a good coach.

Balta1701
He had a rep as one of the best in the league at "pitch framing", is that still true?
JoshPR
Yeah that and other decent things, but as said he's done.
