CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 06:12 AM) Bradley Jr can't hit and would cost us something decent...getting a guy like Victorino isn't a move to make any time soon because you'd obviously like a more long term option, but he's certainly not a bad stop gap option if other plans fall through. I mean we did just sign a 34 year old DH to a 2 year deal...Victorino for 1 year can't seem like too bad of an idea, especially if he costs us little to nothing in a trade. $13M salary is a huge cost. TheFutureIsNear
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) $13M salary is a huge cost. $13M for 1 year is not a lot for a starting OF. Like I said, he would be a fall back option in a couple months if the LF hole isn't filled and the $ isn't spent. Would you rather take a shot on Victorino for 1 year $13 at the cost of Chris Beck or sign Melky Cabrera for 4 years and $16M per at the cost of a 2nd rounder? And if he gave 133 PA's like he did last year? Or the .303 OBP he put up during that stint last year? Victorino "if healthy" would be a great #2 hitter. cabiness42
If I'm taking on Victorino, the Red Sox are paying at least half his salary, and they aren't getting much of a prospect in return. The Red Sox need to unload him more than the White Sox need to acquire him.

Would you rather take a shot on Victorino for 1 year $13 at the cost of Chris Beck or sign Melky Cabrera for 4 years and $16M per at the cost of a 2nd rounder? in looking at Bos outfield situation, i can see Yoenis Cespedes being a very good option. he did come in as a center fielder, so if injury to Eaton, he can be a backup to whom ever will be his normal backup. in addition he still has hitting skills. now my preference would be Shane and his 1 yr 13 mil. he has a history of hitting RHP and LHP equally with his better stats hitting Lefty. these stats are after he stop being a switch hitter. he will be a really good #2 hitter. he would be a good option depending on the cost of the trade. Lillian
Victorino is naturally right handed, and has hit LHP better in his career. Half way through 2013 he stopped switch hitting. I don't know if that was because of his back, or for some other reason. Does anyone have any insight into that issue. Is he expected to be 100% this year? If so, and the Red Sox would cover some of the salary, he could make a solid stop gap. I love guys playing in their contract year. BlackSox13
Think I'll pass on Victorino. Not interested in his salary and I don't trust his health. Bradley Jr would be nice but at what cost?

Lillian
This article explains why Victorino temporarily stopped switch hitting, and the results: http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2014...er-stats-injury Very impressive!

Bradley Jr is an incredibly talented player. He'd be a great piece to acquire because that talent should help him to be a very good 4th outfielder at the very, very least with a 4-5 WAR potential in CF at his very best. AlSoxfan
Whatever happened to Allen Craig? He had a pretty good season in 13 an then fell down in 14. Is he someone we might be interested in on the cheap?

I assume Bradley Jr still has options left? If so it's going to give Boston a good reason to not trade him unless we actually give them something they can use. If we didn't have Eaton I'd be all for taking a risk on Bradley to hope his bat can become passable, but I don't see the need for the risk at this point. If we are going to use resources to trade for a LF it better be someone with a track record.

Is he someone we might be interested in on the cheap? he is a right handed bat, so the question, is the reason for the bad stats, is it b/c of the AL vs NL??? his stats are not that bad before 14, so what his salery 5 mil for the next 2 yrs?? i don't know. One of those injuries that just won't heal right for him. Last I heard he was debating surgery, not sure if he ever got it done or not. I doubt they can trade him though. They took the risk and will probably ride it out.

Bradley Jr has age and upside going for him and as Wite pointed out could at the very least be a good fourth outfielder plus his youth fits into the mold of what Hahn is doing. Victorino is an injury risk, lost a step or two, does not steal bags like you used to, a free agent after the 2015 seson and is about to turn 34, non of which is good when talking about an outfielder. I really don't see a trade match between Boston and Chicago anyway so its all most likely irrelavent.
Dick Allen
JBJ is a left handed hitting Brian Anderson who strikes out more and hits fewer homers. His offensive game in the minors was predicated on drawing walks, something he does a lot less of in the majors because he isn't much of a threat with the bat. He isn't particularly a burner, but is a Gold Glove quality, like BA, in the outfield. Unless they see something that they really think is a fairly simple fix to make him hit, why bother? Throw in, OK. Main piece if you are giving up something decent, silly. Weren't there some crazy rumors last year about the White Sox wanting to trade for Victorino? If they can get the Red Sox to eat cash, it might not be a bad play this year.coming off a major injury, playing for a contract, could mean nice price tag, and very motivated player. Digressing for a moment, I always believe that if the Sox had managed to put together a competent hitting lineup 1-8, they could have lived with Anderson's bat in the 9 hole because the defense he provided was that good. The problem was that most of the rest of the lineup also sucked and Anderson became the whipping boy for the team's offensive woes.

The was the best offense in the AL the first half of the season...or maybe 2nd to Detroit. The problem was when the offense cooled, starting pitchers also wore down and Jenks was injured (the perfect storm) in the 2nd half...they couldn't score runs to save their lives for a stretch there, I remember a big series against the Red Sox that was completely pathetic (not the one they miraculously beat Papelbon before the ASB, either). oldsox
I don't get whatever infatuation there is for Victorino. There is no reason to believe he will hit even .260ish with no power. Let's face it, de Aza is probably better.
