Rowand44
Hmm thought Carroll would actually be kept. I guess we did have to free a spot up on the 40 man though.
GGajewski18
Carroll did well as the long relief guy in the bullpen. If he clears, I still wouldn't be surprised if they added him again in ST if he does well.

flavum
Definitely rooting for him to stay in the organization and get a ST invite.
cabiness42
wow this move surprise me. i wish him the best. I'm guessing they have a handshake deal with Carroll to stay in the organization and be one of the first callups if needed.

I hope you're right.I like the idea of Carroll pitching out of the pen since he did well in limited time last year.
Dunt
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) Leury Garcia survives for another day. Gotta think this is Alexei trade insurance for the time being, correct?

NorthSideSox72
Loved Carroll's backstory, and I loved getting to help him edit the post he wrote for FutureSox. He's good people, and I'd say the Sox would love to keep him if no one picks him up on waivers. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) I would have figured someone would take on Carroll. They still might. He'll be on waivers for a while - this wasn't an outright assignment (yet).
Chisoxfn
I'm surprised he was DFA'd. Saw some potential value in him as a swingmen in the pen. I presume someone will pick him up and give him a shot to compete during spring training. Might even be back with the Sox. Best of luck Scott!!! GreenSox
Surprised. I would have DFAd one of the low ceiling 5th outfielders that can't hit that the Sox seem to love. Carroll is effective if he can keep the ball down Edited November 25, 2014 by GreenSox

I will still be his fan.

Strategically, why waive instead of an outright assignment?
maggsmaggs
Kinda surprised. 1.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP in 22 innings as a reliever last year. You could do much worse for the last guy in the pen/emergency starter.

chitownsportsfan
Good guy, good story. Got his service time for the pension so pretty much whatever else he can squeeze out of his arm is gravy. Certainly a testament to the power of hard work and perseverance. That said, pretty much a dime a dozen long man with zero upside. Sox might be looking to find someone with a little more upside for the last pitcher on the roster in '15. GreenSox
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) Sox might be looking to find someone with a little more upside for the last pitcher on the roster in '15. I think that's true - that's why guys like Cleto are still around. Still, they keep around position players that have very little upside. southsider2k5
Realistically, it means the Sox aren't done shopping for pitching.
