hi8is
A thread to talk about trade / signing ideas leading up to the winter meetings on December 8th. My crazy, wild, and wonderful ideas... 1.) Trade Quintana to the Braves for Justin Upton and Evan Gattis 2.) Sign Upton to an extension 3.) Trade Danks in any move that returns little prospects but some salary relief 4.) Sign Jon Lester 5.) Sign Jake Peavy 6.) Sign Luke Gregorson 7.) Trade Vicedo for minor leauge marbles Rotation: Sale Peavy Lester Noesi Rodon Lineup: Eaton ( CF ) Rameriz ( SS ) Abreu ( 1B / DH ) LaRoche ( 1B / DH ) Upton ( LF ) Galipse ( 3B ) Garcia ( RF ) Gattis ( C ) Simen ( 2B ) Bullpen: Gregorson Duke Petricka Guerra Putnam Webb Surkamp / Garcia Bassit ( 5th starter until Rodon is up ) Bench: Flowers Garcia Sanchez Shuck One of the bench players is sent down when Rodon is called up. Yes - this is completely insane and losing Jose hurts but hell - with that roster I'm f***ing dreaming again... Kenny. Oh, by the way Rick... If you want my help you can buy me out of my company, move me to Chicago, and I'll get to work. My salary requirements are only 25 million spread out across a 6 year term. My desk better have a floor to ceiling window overlooking home plate. Your turn... Crazy, wild, wonderful... GO!
thxfrthmmrs
If you are talking about pipe dreams rather than speculations, I will go with: Trade Alexei and Danks to Dodgers for Kemp and Alex Guerrero and $20 mil paid over 5 years. Essentially you're getting Kemp for 5/$59 mil and Guerrero for Alexei and dead weight of Danks. Trade Gillaspie and Beck to Padres for Grandal Sign Chase Headley for 3/$39 mil Sign Max Scherzer for 7/$161 mil Sign Luke Hochevar for 1/$5 mil Viciedo retires from baseball to replace Drew Carey as the host of TPIR The payroll ends up around $112 million for 2015 Lineup: CF Eaton (L) 3B Headley (S) 1B Abreu ® DH LaRoche (L) LF Kemp ® RF Garcia ® C Grandal (S) SS Semien ® 2B Sanchez (S) Rotation: Sale Scherzer Quintana Noesi Bassit/Rodon Bench: Danks 2 Guerrero Flowers Saladino Pen: Petricka Hochevar Duke Putnam Webb Guerra Savery/Snoddy/Surkamp Alternatively, we could trade Danks and Semien to BoSox for Shane Victorino rather than landing Kemp. Offense wouldn't be as lethal offensively, but should make us an insanely good defensive team. I am assuming you are not that familiar with Betts. He played 90% of his minor league games at 2B. He came up when Pedroia was hurt and showed a solid bat Unfortunately Pedroia is blocking him. So the Red Sox moved him to the outfield when Pedroia came back. He was just average in outfield since he was learning the position at ML level. If he is traded it will probably be as a 2B for value purposes. Otherwise Red Sox may send him back to AAA to learn CF. He struggled w throws from RF. Very solid hitter but also very small but used the Fenway wall to his advantage. .

GreenSox
QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) Obviously- but I'm stating an Upton extension too. You don't think Gattis can catch? No I don't - I don't think that there is any position he plays wells. He's a pretty good hitter, but nothing special. The Braves aren't extending him; it's a trade for a rent then HOPE to extend him. Sign him next year instead. He's much better than any hitter on this year's market.

Putting money aside thou, what would you rather have... 1.) Jose Quintana Or 2.) Justin Upton, Evan Gattis, and Jon Lester Literally, putting money aside is cheating in this one. Obviously more people would rather have the latter on players alone, but come on, it's 3 players and you're saying "putting money aside". One of those will cost $250 million over the next 7-8 years, one will cost $40 mil. Let's try making the money approximately even. Who would you rather have 1. Quintana + Scherzer or 2 Upton, Gattis, Lester.
