RH SP Ideas

I really like Nathan Eovaldi as a potential RH SP for our rotation. He throws heat, he's young enough, and Coop can fix his wildness.

Not sure what it would take, but MLBTR says he is available for the right offer. I won't speculate on what that offer might be, but Viciendo would be nice and close to his fellow Cubans in Miami...

Thoughts? Other RH SP thoughts? Masterson and McCarthy don't excite me and Scherzer and Shields aren't likely.

he is their starting #1 pitcher, also, they have no need for DV, their outfield

is already stacked.

the price would be extremely too high to pay.

I'm not so sure the Eovaldi is that high on the depth chart. Fernandez is definitely the #1 when he comes back but then the Marlins have Cosart, Alvarez and Koehler in their rotation with some good young arms in their minors. I'd guess this is why the Marlins are making Eovaldi available and also due to the pay raise Eovaldi is going to get in arbitration.

I agree that Eovaldi won't come cheap but he also has not proven himself to be a front line pitcher yet so his value can only be so high. He has nasty stuff, just has not been able to put it all together yet and that's what should keep the asking price somewhat reasonable.

Not that it means the Sox would/could/should trade for him. I'd love to take a chance but I really don't know what his value is or what the Marlins are looking for in a return. A RH power bat like Viciedo could intrigue them to be a part of the deal and it looks like they might be able to use a 2B so maybe Semien can be offered as well.

Outside of that, the only other thing I can think of is if the Sox agreed to take on Salty's contract. Something like Salty/Eovaldi for Viciedo/Semien/? . Doubtful that's even close, just throwing it out there.

Exactly Rooster. Jose F is their #1, and he will be back. They have a lot of SP talent, no one is sure how many actual MLB SPs they actually have beyond Jose. They aren't in love with Eovaldi, and pairing him with Salty for Viciedo/Semien/2 solid prospects could do it. Let's not pretend like the Marlins haven't made trades to save $, and that they haven't made some terrible trades, too.

Marlins have no need for Viciedo because they have Yelich, Ozuna, and Stanton in their OF.

I don't know what it could take to get Eovaldi and Salty but one of Phegley/Flowers will be sent back the other way most likely.

Also, I kind a feel like Noesi is better than Eovaldi. I would definitely want to do better than him to put in between Sale and Quintana.

Sorry guys, I forgot about Yelich which pretty much takes Viciedo out of the equation unless the Marlins wanted to platoon him with Jones at 1B. Viciedo's 4M would make that rather expensive platoon so I'm not counting on it.

Both Marlins back up catchers are right handed so I'm not really sure how interested in Phegley or Flowers they would be. 2B seems to be a hole but Sanchez or Semien is not enough alone. With the Marlins having plenty of young cheap pitching talent its hard to see them being interested in the likes of Beck or Bassitt.

As much as I like Eovaldi's upside, its hard to see a match between the Marlins and the Sox.

Screw it, trade them Danks! :P

the marlins just spent a crap load of money. i believe if they can pick up

a better option than they have currently, then fine. but i am believing that

they want high end prospects. the like of a Hawkins, or another who

may be 3+ yr away from competing for a position. in other words replenish

their system.

i think they will start rotating the players who may be ready or past ready for

arb. i think they will try to find another way to save money. if they find a, for

ex, a Jon Lester, then they will keep that players.
