Heads22
Bob Nightengale @BNightengale The #WhiteSox, who are searching the marketplace for another OF and bullpen help, are telling teams that LF Dayan Viciedo is available. Trader Rick is apparently not done. Nothing that we didn't know, but Nightingale often has the best and most relevant info.

GreenSox
He and Danks are about our only cards left to play. Not exactly trumps though.
GreatScott82
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) He and Danks are about our only cards left to play. Not exactly trumps though. On the MLB roster yes, but don't forget the farm system. If they see an opportunity to acquire an all-star outfielder by trading a top prospect, this seems to be the winter to do it. SoCalSox
This tells me that the Sox are close to acquiring their starter in LF/RF. They wouldn't trade him w/o something close, IMO.
BaconOnAStick
At least Hahn gave us 24 hours to calm down before going back at it again.
Baron
You didnt think they were going to trot Viciedo out there again when talking about the importance of defense right?
chitownsportsfan
Of course they are. All the doomsayers penciling viciedo in for lf can now relax a bit. Hahn would not have tendered him without knowing his value was above negative around the league.
BaconOnAStick
There's a lot of people who think Viciedo will be something one day. I'm one of them.

Andy the Clown
No one has wanted him for a year. Why would anyone want him now, particularly when he just got expensive?
BaconOnAStick
No one has wanted him for a year. Why would anyone want him now, particularly when he just got expensive? He's not as attractive at the deadline as he is now. He's a big buy low candidate. If the Sox traded for him from another team we would all be very excited. spiderman
I wouldn't give him away, but then again, his play hasn't exactly inspired a lot of interest. The signing of LaRoche ended his career here. I thought there was an outside chance they could keep him as a DH; given that he can hit for power, that is a commodity that teams can use (including the White Sox) but it seems unlikely that they would bring him back to play regularly in the OF going forward. What's interesting is that they can probably use a somewhat decent 4th OF as well given Eaton's over the top aggression (at times) play, and the change that the eventual new LF isn't a guy who plays 145 games. greg775
Like Beckham, his Sox ship has sailed. He's got to go. I'd suspect Hahn dumps him for very little in return.
BaconOnAStick
No we wouldn't. At all. Cuban, shown a couple flashes, power pretty good. If he had been playing in Atlanta for the last 3 years we would be all over it. We're in town stupid on Dayan Viciedo.... to an extent. GreenSox
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) On the MLB roster yes, but don't forget the farm system. If they see an opportunity to acquire an all-star outfielder by trading a top prospect, this seems to be the winter to do it. Fortunately, Hahn has consistently said that he won't hurt the real future in pursuit of the present. No moves like renting Upton, please. The world doesn't end in 2015. Top prospects are rarely moved anymore anyway. Teams stockpile them. The last was probably Russell- may have been the only one from last year. Just an athletic outfielder with some on base skills to hit in front of Abreu would help immensely. don't need bunters or base stealers or sluggers. Just someone who can field the position and get on base. Edited December 10, 2014 by GreenSox
Bigsoxhurt35
I'd like to get Melky as the next move or Kemp if we can move Danks to LA.
Southwest Sider
This kid, while streaky, will always be a somewhat okay ML bat. He will probably improve over more time as well. If the kid could play a lick of defense, he may even stick with the Sox. But I just don't see a future with Viciedo and the Sox. He will never reach his old ceiling as a superstar, but he has reached his floor... Low average and OBP, 15-20 HRs, 50-70 RBIs. Not much trade value, but if the Sox can get a couple lottery tickets for him I'd be happy. We need a different answer in left field, and I'm hoping that this offseason brings it. I'm not particularly stoked about the idea of Crawford, Bruce or Melky. The Sox reallly need an outfielder who is a plus defender and can also hit in the very least as well as Viciedo. That will be tough to come by. I think I like Melky the most out of all of them simply because he will only cost money and a 3rd round pick... but I'm not in for Melky for a 5 year deal. Boopa1219
I know it's a long shot but I would love for the Sox to get back Dustin Ackley in any deal with Seattle. He could be a good left fielder for the Sox, and he wouldn't break the bank. Imagine this line up: Eaton - CF (L) Ramirez - SS Abreu - DH LaRoche - 1B (L) Garcia - RF Gillapse -3B (L) Ackley - LF (L) Flowers - C Johnson - 2B (L) What do you think?
