Andy the Clown
Dear Santa Hahn, I know that Christmas is your busy time of year, and that you've been so generous with we Sox fans in answering all of our wishes, but I have one final request: Please sign Jed Lowrie to an incentive-laden, one-year deal. He is relatively young (30), plays an outstanding 2B (6.0 UZR), and is an excellent buy low candidate given his below average BABIP (.281). A one-year deal allows Sanchez and Johnson another year to develop (they need it), and compensates for our relative offensive weaknesses at 3B and C. That being said, I realize that I am both greedy and just a Clown, so I will STFU and let you weave your magic. With Love, AtC
thxfrthmmrs
Does Lowrie still play 2B, let alone 6.0 UZR? We don't have $8 mil to throw at a backup infielder at this point, especially not with Danks and Tank still on the roster.
TomPickle
Lowrie played exclusively at SS last year (0.6 UZR in 1146 innings), but you would have to think that he could still handle 2B. There were some Astros rumors swirling around earlier in the off-season and he said he'd be willing to play 3B for them so he would probably be willing to play 2B for the Sox. Chicago White Sox
I don't think Sanchez needs more development. For better or worse, I think he's a finished product (minus some power as his body matures). Micah is a different story, probably could use another half season in AAA, although I think organization is pretty high on him and wouldn't hesitate giving him the starting job. Rowand44
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) Why would Lowrie sign for that? Because we're the White Sox and everyone wants to play here now. Or Something.
BaconOnAStick
I'd rather have Bonifacio on a 1 year deal. Sanchez can defend and gets enough base hits to not be a black hole. On the other hand, Gillaspie bats 6th and can't hit lefties. And our 4th OF is incapable of playing defense. Bonifacio solves what it would take two other players to solve. If the money isn't there then so be it.
Eminor3rd
I think we'd be better off finding strong, right-handed bench pieces to share time with Gillaspie/LaRoche at this point. Sanchez won't hit like Lowrie, but the glove will be substantially better, and you gotta figure the resources are running out at this point. May not have enough to make more than one more move, if any.

With Love, AtC Do you see why it was silly now to get all up in arms thinking that LaRoche killed any chance at Melky? Glad that you're a happy clown now. Lowrie, Zobrist, other? - maybe a few finishing moves left.
TomPickle
Zobrist would be incredible, but you'd have to think Tampa wouldn't take less than Tim Anderson for him and I don't think the Sox can afford to do that for one year of Zobrist. BlackSox13
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) I think we'd be better off finding strong, right-handed bench pieces to share time with Gillaspie/LaRoche at this point. Sanchez won't hit like Lowrie, but the glove will be substantially better, and you gotta figure the resources are running out at this point. May not have enough to make more than one more move, if any. Yeah, I'm absolutely fine with Sanchez at second. I'm hoping somehow the Sox can acquire Holt and/or VanSlyke to be bench/platoon players. Holt is a LHB but hits lefties better righties and VanSlyke would be a great platoon partner for LaRoche and can be used to give Melky and Avi a day off from time to time. As for Lowrie, I agree that the money might no longer be there for him and the Sox seem content with Sanchez, Johnson, Saladino and Leury to sort out second base. bmags
I feel like our next signing is going to be in late Jan/early feb, one of the vet contracts who held out too long for more and suddenly has no team. Would be great if a Tadahito Iguchi appears.
