Balta1701
QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) I didn't realize Carlos Sanchez was suddenly Dustin Pedroia. Where on Earth did I say that? "Solid MLB-caliber starter at 2b" = "Dustin Pedroia or better"?
TheFutureIsNear
If you can't support a team with 3 or 4 former PED users then you should probably pick a different sport to watch all together....and make sure it's not football either. Reddy
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) but at the time, did anyone know of it?? we can not look at it after the fact. What!? So you're not ashamed that a PED user was a part of our championship squad?

SoxAce
QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) .671 OPS over three seasons at AAA, albeit young for the level. Danny Santana has a career .708 OPS in the minors then got called up and put up a .824 OPS in 430 PA. Whether that is the outliner or the norm, there have been a ton of players who have over achieved in the bigs. Sanchez might not be average, but I'm willing to find out first instead of writing him off. He tends to settle down after he reaches a level the following year. I'm one of his biggest fans here (love Micah too though, bigger upside) so I believe he will succeed. He'll probably be one of the better fastball hitters on this team already. I'm not writing him off, but to say that all of our holes have been filled with "solid MLB-caliber starters" like Balta did just seems like a stretch to me, at 2B and C specifically, with 3B another potential question mark. If I am reading this table right, the MLB average OPS by 2B in 2014 was .686. If the guy hits his minor league OPS, and plays the good defense we saw, he is at very least, a league average player. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/sortable...php?cid=1681191

It's 3 times the average percentage of 27 year old adults with the condition. You are right, if you can't stand cheaters, major league baseball is probably something you should avoid. Last two years at AAA he was sub-.600. Last year showed encouraging progress. I would LOVE for it to continue, but I just think it's premature to call him "solid". He hasn't shown that yet. You are really going to take a 39 plate appearance sample size and equate that to a year? He was bad in 2013 and much better in 2014. I'm guessing his overall talent level is closer to 2014 based on reports from the AAA team, including Sanchez getting out of shape and somewhat complacent. He worked a lot harder prior to the season last year (and seemingly during the season) and it paid off. I think he can be a decent regular but I think the Sox are going to go with Micah Johnson when he proves he's ready.
