royoung
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) Trying to sign everyone Assuming he will compete with Brantly on the lefty backup catcher job
ChiSox59
He did hit three bombs against us last year...in one game.
GGajewski18
Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 25s25 seconds ago Source: #WhiteSox in agreement with George Kottaras. @JonHeymanCBS said deal was close. Why? Minor league deal? Flowers, Brantly, Nieto, Smith, Kottaras. Trade on the horizon? Or just catching depth?
southsider2k5
Interesting. I wonder who is in trouble?

GGajewski18
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Meh. Organizational move. Has to be a minor league deal with an opt out clause, agreed?
cabiness42
Can they send Nieto to minors now? Well, not literally now as in December 18, but they can option him to Charlotte in March.

I think Nieto was going to the minors regardless with the addition of Brantly in my opinion.

He spent his time on the major league roster, and is the full property of the Chicago White Sox.

ChiliIrishHammock24
I do love Kottaras patience at the plate though. Last 3 seasons he's had a 17.7% walk rate, 19.0%, and 15.8%. Over those 3 seasons, he combined for 149 games and a 2.1 WAR. He should be serviceable backup catcher if he wins the job over Brantly, Nieto, and Smith. Vance Law
Seems like he's way better than Brantley.
Dunt
I dont know why, but I like this move a lot. Hasn't had an OPS+ below 98 since 2010, high walk rate, good BB:K rate. Makes a lot of sense as a back, makes you kind of wonder why they even traded for Brantly as Kottaras seems like a much better backup option. Unless this is an indication that Flowers might be headed elsewhere?
GreenSox
Minor league deal only, I hope.
