oneofthemikes
Not sure how the number might translate, but Phil Rogers tweeted that Avi has hit .312 w/5 HRs, 22 RBIs, and an.894 OPS in 34 Venezuelan winter games.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Not sure how the number might translate, but Phil Rogers tweeted that Avi has hit .312 w/5 HRs, 22 RBIs, and an.894 OPS in 34 Venezuelan winter games. It's better than the alternative, but still doesn't mean very much. Leury Garcia is hitting about .340 in the Domincan League. I don't think that will cause any excitement. Baron
I was reading Bill James's projections and he had Avi hitting fairly well next year.

chitownsportsfan
His ZIPS went from like 9 WAR over the next 3 years (2014-17) to like 4 because of his injury last year. People need to give this guy a chance to string together 500 or more PA in a season. I think he's going to impress this year. He's a hard worker. Rowand44
It's nice to see the homeruns. Crappy competition or not with his swing I'm always worried about him getting lift on the ball.
elrockinMT
I think the positive we should be looking at is th fact Garcia came back from a bad injury and played some last year but wasn't at his best and needed more at bats. He is getting that in winter ball and building up strength, etc. His performance is good to see and hopefully carries over to the 2015 season

Jerksticks
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 01:36 AM) His swing path reminds of of a right-handed Mark Kotsay. Just smash everything in to the ground. What's exciting to me about him though is how short, sweet and compact his swing is on outside pitches. He can murder outer-half balls to right field and I feel like that is the key to being great. Most guys can only pull balls and it seems like he refuses to be that typical pull guy, almost to a fault at this point. I would bet Davidson is the opposite which sucks and is pretty typical for young strong guys. Seems like the more correctable problem Avi has. I could be wrong as s*** though. It reminds me of how Robin Ventura came back after he ripped up his knee during spring training in 1997 before the dreaded white flag trade. I would imagine that RV appreciated Garcia's effort more than most managers.

Completely agree. I think he's one of the 3 cornerstones of 2015 being successful for the Sox. His health and production along with Chris Sale staying relatively healthy, and our bullpen being as improved as we all hope it will be. If those 3 come together, we'll be playing meaningful Fall baseball.

thxfrthmmrs
So you really think, if he hypothetically does again, that it wouldn't cause any animosity between him and the teammate, and the clubhouse wouldn't gang up against him? He would definitely be traded again.

Hold the f*** on, cheering for a guy that used steriods would make you sick to your stomach, but you're cool with a dude who banged his teammate wife??
