Douglas Rome
no, I'm talking about Kiplinger. I never thought much of him when he was standing in the batter's box, and he proved he stole JR.s money. thanks, douglas

lvjeremylv
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 01:20 AM) Here's the Sox part: Sure it could work. All that has to happen, is Reinsdorf saying "make it happen", and Hahn could call up Scherzer's agent and make it happen. Will it happen? Nah. But it's not because JR doesn't have the money. Rooftop Shots
QUOTE (lvjeremylv @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 12:44 AM) Sure it could work. All that has to happen, is Reinsdorf saying "make it happen", and Hahn could call up Scherzer's agent and make it happen. Will it happen? Nah. But it's not because JR doesn't have the money. plus no way you wanna tie up that huge chunk on money for taht many years where it has almost proven that long term big contract deals seldom pan out. The only way that Sox could afford him is short term, but it would take some serious magic. Unload Danks and Viciedo and that frees 20 million. May get Max for 25 million, so in essence you'd be getting him short term for 5 mil a year for the remaing length of Danks contract. Scherzer definately is not coming here. Just hoping that anyone gets him besides Detroit
LDF
i am still going to preach the concept, if the cost of getting this or any pitcher is NOT cost prohibitive, i would get a 1yr or 2 yr rental, a SP who will walk, give him a QO and hopefully redeem a draft pick. lets look at the Marlins, they have won 2 world series and immediately dismantle the team. i am not saying completely dismantle the team but to let them walk with a QO, to help the farm system. I think a lot of that money possibly just went to Bonifacio, unfortunately. I agree with the concept, though. If it was up to me, we'd only be betting on ONE of Danks/Noesi to break in the rotation next year. I think the Sox see Danks as a lock, though, and assume that Rodon will put pressure on Noesi eventually. The thing no one ever brings up, though, is that SOMEONE is likely to get injured. shago
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) right now, i am more concern in having a backup plan / platoon for Avi and Eaton. Know the thread got zero traction recently, but his name is Ichiro: "The 41-year-old batted .284/.324/.340 in 385 plate appearances for the Yankees last season. Ichiro is clearly no longer the player he once was, but both Ultimate Zone Rating and Defensive Runs Saved pegged him as an average defender in right field this season, and he’s still a skilled baserunner, as evidenced in part by his 15-for-18 mark in stolen bases." - MLBTradeRumors.com / Fangraphs
