It has been a terrible 9 seasons since 2006.

God it must have been terrible being a Cubs fan in that timeframe, huh?

Sox won the World Series, Cubs couldn't win a playoff series, had to have a priest bless a dugout, blowing money on Soriano, Zambrano going nuts, being incredibly awful for years, White Sox winning that stupid Crosstown Cup.

Serious question- when did this happen?

Smart money says they are about to be repaid for that. Their whole organization is stacked.

They did win 90 games the season following the World Series, and that's enough to get into the post-season more often than not these days...so you had the anomalies of the Twins/Tigers both being better in one season (same as the NL Central this year).

They got to the playoffs in 2008, and made strong/competitive runs in 2010 and 2012, as well as adding Peavy/Rios/Beckham/Quentin/Floyd/Danks/Alexei Ramirez/Viciedo.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out...but it's not like they immediately collapsed. If anything, they held onto the veteran core pieces for too long instead of starting the rebuilding in 2007-09 instead of pushing it all the way back to 2012/2013, essentially.

It was more faded into obscurity...rather than being driven into the ground.

Bringing in Thome, Mackowiak and Javy V. seemed like solid moves at the time. Of course, their FA moves this off-season were applauded by many as well, and we all know how that worked out.

"Unfortunately it didn't work" is the perfect summary for this team post 2008. It suggests we've made numerous trades and FA signings to assemble teams that appeared to be able to compete......but unfortunately it didn't work it.

I do agree though that rebuilding should have taken place after 2007, even considering the 2008 season. Another phrase with this team is waiting too long. Waiting too long to trade someone, waiting too long to reassemble a team.

It is a silly question. The Cardinals don't have to watch their 2006 World Series DVD. They just win it all again. That is the goal.

It's not silly at all. Like I said before I wouldnt trade 2005 to be a Cubs fan right now with the "smart money" saying they are going to win it all again soon. 107 years and counting lol

"Smart money" Hahaha

One team is setting up for winning long term. The other is trying to overpay gimmick free agent signing to win it once.

I'd feel more comfortable with a competent coach and a real GM making signings.

We are equally as irrelevant. Again. Spinning the wheel going for it all. Fail. Repeat.

Not even close. Those teams could only dream of having Rodon. Those teams are also in stacked divisions going forward.

Go take another look at the White Sox position players draft under Williams by career WAR.

It's not a performance close to that of a winner. Bad doesn't begin to describe our scouting.

Have you looked at us recently? We are a mirror image of both of those clubs.

We're hopeless, but it's not nearly as bad. Whenever you have a pitcher of Sale's calibur leading Rodon and Quintana it's not terrible. However, where it's similar is we're both hopelessly behind several divisional opponents who are in a MUCH better position to compete.

My question is, how do we compete with Kansas City and Detroit come 2016 and beyond? When that question is answered, we'll be no better than those clubs dealing with their divisional leaders.

I'd argue that it's really KCR and the Twins that we have to worry about, not the Tigers.

Which is why they keep sticking to drafting pitchers. I heard the same segment that you did on the radio.

First, you lose Kenny Williams. Second, you figure out how to go back and move Shark. Third, you play out the rest of the season and then try to move Sale for top position prospects. Do the same with Abreu, because Hahn has the uncanny ability to make team friendly contract. You take or leave Alexei. Play through one or two thin seasons to gain draft picks. That's how you do it. The problem is our scouting can't draft positional talent.
