This is a serious question, Herb Lawrence, and I think you're the one to answer it: How much hell would Robin Ventura and Don Cooper be catching right now for not teaching one of their starters how to hold runners?

Wow, that's desperate Rongey. One team has a 4.5 game lead in the WC race, the other one is 4.5 games back, behind 6 teams.

That is the truth and it was a big issue earlier in the year when Lester was struggling and imagine it being a one game playoff and that becomes an issue.

It was an issue in the one-game playoff Lester started last year, but I imagine he wouldn't start the one this year.

So, should I go and check the CS rates for the comparable teams and tweet them back at him? The Cubs have a higher CS %age than the White Sox and 1 more pickoff on the year (although both teams pretty high on pickoffs).

Sure, but right now Lester isn't struggling, the Cubs are winning, so nobody cares. Ventura would be catching slack because the Sox are bad at baseball, it's simple. Rongey is just trying to push the "Woe is Robin" card.

Schwarber's going to end up winning ROY over Bryant and Joc.

I kind of want to see this happen now. This is crazy. The Brewers are completely f***ing awful but to win 7 games in a row over any single team is impressive. Samardzija better be ready tomorrow.

That would be the most absurd ROY ever.

Remember how Gordon was basically penalized for only playing 100 games? Schwarber will finish with around 60 games.

fWAR

Bryant: 4.0

Schwarber 1.2

Highest BABIP amongst NL rookies:

Shane Peterson .418

Schwarber .397

Tomas .388

Soler .384

Defensive value: Bryant Positive, Schwarber negative.

Even if you assume Bryant's insane baserunning numbers are overdone, every reason to expect Schwarber cannot keep this pace up while Bryant will approach a 5 fWAR player by the end of the year.

Haha that's great. He's got to look at the bright side in a situation like this. Maximum hype means maximum angst if they fail to win it all. Now of course that means risking the possibility they do bring home a championship (or multiple! Oh no, the horror!), but if they don't win it all over this next 5-6 year window then Cub fans will be more angsty than ever.

Well, no matter how you cut it, that would be an exciting bat to have in the Sox line-up...but doubt Schwarber was even under the White Sox radar with all the focus on Rodon, Aiken, Hoffman and Nola.

So you're regretting last year's pick already after Rodon and Schwarber have both played less than half a season?

Well said, at this point, it would shock me if they don't make the postseason. Just hoping that some of the superstars likely to be involved in the postseason step up (ie..Kershaw). Interesting aspect of the new playoff system is that it's almost a guarantee the Wild Card winner (from NL Central) will play Cardinals in the NLDS.

I am kinda of already tired of being trolled by Cubs fans at work and on FB. Like when I look through my timeline and they are saying WHERE ARE U SUX FANS NOW? GO 2005!........Yes it is juvenile and I should be above that but damn I have to really stop myself from responding and feeding into it. LOL

He wasn't on anyone's radar really. He was considered a middle to late first round pick by almost all of the experts. I'd bet money that even if we had passed on Rodon for some reason, the Cubs would have picked him instead of Schwarber.

Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to get used to it. The Cubs looked stacked for a while.
