I am not so sure. Just a quick browse on zillow and there are some nice homes in the 400k range in nice areas. That is a lot of money of course but its not totally outrageous for the quality of life aspect.

Same, though I'd be more interested in the central coast or around the bay area than socal.

I worked in Costa Mesa but don't live there. Live near there.
