LDF
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) Anyone picking the Cubs to win the World Series next year is a joke and should lose all credibility as a journalist or sports writer. i hate to break up the enjoyment of betting against the sCrubs fans, but wait until Scherzer and Shields sign. but the sox batting lineup sure looks tough. BlackSox13
No surprise by the cubs predictions since they have always been media darlings anyway. Besides, I like the idea of getting their fans hopes up just to have those hopes come crashing down. I give them credit for taking many steps in the right direction but until those youngsters show they can produce at the big league level, they have their hands full with teams like St.Louis, Milwaukee, Pitt and even Cinci. Cubs still need a better rotation too. As for the Tiger, I think their reign is over. IMO, the Sox or Indians win the ALC in 2015.

Most of the Cubs roster has never played in "big games" . Maybe if they have a strong 2015, the Cubs can look at 2016 success. But so to the White Sox are somewhat similiar. I think they can chase a WC berth in 2015 and 2016 be counted as a divisional favorite. Edited January 10, 2015 by SCCWS
Texsox
For anyone with a job that involves making these sort of predictions for a deadline in December, picking someone that no one else picked is both a f=great attention getter and if it pans out, makes you look like a genius. Not the Mr.Genius but a genius. Now be one of the guys that picks a team that has had a historical and for us hysterical streak of sucking (Cubs) to win and it happens . . . Wow. It gets people reading and talking.

Great, and when the Cubs don't come close to even making the playoffs, the person who made the ridiculous World Series prediction should lose all credibility as an expert. Whisox05
As soon as the cubs signed lester during the winters meetings, Vegas was giving them pretty good odds to win it all. Sox after already having signed duke and laroche then adding samardzija and Robertson only increased their odds a little. I think the cubs are farther away then the sox but the media loves to give them the attention. Here is the article of why the sporting news is picking them. http://mobile.sportingnews.com/article/463...r-maddon-bryant After reading their reasoning there really isn't much support their pick. Pretty much spitting out names. Bruce Levine article pretty much says it's premature to be picking the cubs at this point. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/01/09/lev...-are-premature/ Edited January 10, 2015 by WhiteSoxLifer

Depends on why. There wouldn't be any NFL experts out there after the Bear's season. IIRC they were picked near the top in almost everyone's predictions. napa_soxfan
Eaton baby. Got to meet Joel Youngblood yesterday during a tasting. Great guy. He's currently an outfield instructor with Arizona and after restraining myself from asking baseball q's until he was nearly through (and a bit looser-lipped), I mentioned Adam Eaton. This led to a few animated "He's my boy!"s and "I taught him everything he knows"s. However, it was more interesting when he talked being pissed that he was traded from the D-backs, AND that he thinks he will lead the league in hitting soon. Wouldn't that be a kick in arse for 2015??

Wouldn't that be a kick in arse for 2015?? If he gets back to his "groundball up the middle" stroke he had last spring training, he could give it a shot. I swear, he must have been hitting over .400 at times in ST because he would just put a light swing on the ball and ground it back up the middle for about 70% of his hits. It looked so easy for him. Then the season started and he got away from that. Maybe because the infields are much softer in the majors vs. Arizona.
LDF
i am going to rehash this thread for the same reasons as i used before. with spring training upon us, or should i say around the corner. with out shields finding a destination, i see bos as the real threat in the AL and the sox being at least tied at 3rd. what are your opinions.
