shysocks
Huge news, guys. This belongs in the important topics. QUOTE (@bnicholsonsmith @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) Source: #WhiteSox, Javy Guerra avoid arb. $937,500 in 2015
elrockinMT
I wonder when the last time we actually went to arbitration? I think it's a good thing to settle amicably. But, what role will Guerrra hav with this team?
thxfrthmmrs
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) I wonder when the last time we actually went to arbitration? I think it's a good thing to settle amicably. But, what role will Guerrra hav with this team? I like it, his arb was projected to be $1.3 mil. He didn't do bad last year, we could do worse with $900K. Robertson, Petricka, Duke, Putnam, Webb, Guerra, Jennings/Garcia. Guerra bumps out Cleto. Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm
I thought he would get more than that... nice deal, Mr Hahn.
YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
I like this deal. 900K isn't a ton of money, and Guerra is a solid reliever. I'm not sure what role he'll have on the team though. Maybe a 6th-7th inning guy along with Putnam?

I think I read somewhere he had the worst "inherited runners allowed" stat on the team with Zack Putnam having the best on the team, last season. YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) Likely no with Jennings and Duke in the fold. Is Jennings better than Surkamp? I've never seen Jennings pitch.
thxfrthmmrs
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) I think I read somewhere he had the worst "inherited runners allowed" stat on the team with Zack Putnam having the best on the team, last season. He might have, but those things varies greatly from season to season. He's pitched respectably 3 of his 4 seasons in the majors, and does have a good fastball. So I wouldn't hold it against him yet. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) What about Eric Surkamp? Does he not make the team? The guys he's competing against clearly are better or have better track records. With his repertoire, he profiles better as a 6th starter anyways. If we need an emergency starter, he or Beck will get the call from Triple A. witesoxfan
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) I know about his profile but admitted I only watched him pitch maybe twice last season and nothing stood out for me. What did you like about him? A bland straight fastball but a good cutter and I think both would play up with full time relieving, nice curve that generated some swings and misses, solid command/control, fair changeup. As a starter, I don't think he has enough velocity to make the change in speeds of his stuff matter, but in the bullpen it plays up a bit. It wouldn't be a big loss, as I don't think he's anything special, but guys who aren't anything special can have long careers. His average velocity last year was about 88-89...if he got that up to 90-91, I think he'd be perfectly fine and perhaps good as a 2nd lefty in the pen. The Sox already have a 2nd lefty in the pen, so he may be gone, but he's a good guy to have as a camp body.
witesoxfan
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) I would have given him less money than Guerra FWIW. The market would not have. Starting pitchers are going to be inherently more valuable than relief pitchers. Based on the 40/60/80 arbitration value scale, given these initial contracts, Guerra's open market value right now would be roughly $2.5 mill while Noesi's is $5 mill. Neither of those seem to be far off. Nate Jones is a little different given that he's coming off an injury and will be rehabbing quite a bit this year. cabiness42
I would have given him less money than Guerra FWIW. Noesi has more service time than Guerra and is also a starter. There is no chance Guerra gets more.
