QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 04:52 AM)
I saw a lot of empty seats at Wrigley last year. Of course their attendance numbers are skewed because people bought tickets but just didn't show up.

As bad as the Cubs have been, their attendance last year would have been a top 5 all time number for the White Sox. People paying much attention to the comment, and upset he is breaking out the attendance trophy again, need to come back with something better than the Sox have face painting and a fundamentals deck. The fact is more kids do go to Cubs games, and really that is all Ricketts said.

Lol...talk about spinning. Not one person is arguing the validity of Tom's statement. We all know the Cubs draw better than the Sox. Again, the initial statement was regarding who offered the better fan experience for children. Until children start buying their own tickets, attendance numbers really don't matter in this discussion. At the end of the day, Ricketts clearly took a cheap shot at the Sox to cover up a weakness in the Wrigley experience. There really is no denying this.

But go ahead and keep defending the Cubs owner who has literally accomplished nothing on the baseball field.

Tom the idiot took a cheap shot at the Sox to cover up the fact the his own family

enjoys the sox more.

What am I spinning? His quote was ,"Can't be that many kids having fun at USCF". I would think the attendance number would matter. If USCF is better for kids, and I would agree with that, (even though when I was of that age, I was totally into the game and not the other stuff, and am sure my dad wouldn't have brought me to a White Sox game after the first couple if I wasn't all that interested in what was happening on the field) why are more parents, in these days where everyone gets a trophy, and speaking to your children in a loud tone is considered abuse by some, really abusing their kids, and tsking them to Cubs games and not Sox games. Again, the one thing White Sox fans can do to stop these types of comments, is quit finding excuses not to go, and buy some tickets once in a while. The White Sox fanbase set themselves up for this type of comment with all of their apathy.

My question is why are Sox fans offended? Ricketts was talking at Cubs Convention with Cubs fans and made a joke. First of all, the attendance problem is real and true. Second, it's an innocuous joke. Sox fans would get a similar kick out of a joke told by KW at the Cubs expense if the circumstances were similar.

I'm done, no need to waste another second on your straw man argument.

IMO, if White Sox fans don't want to be the butt of attendance jokes, they should go the the games. I don't understand the outrage here. The draw 1,000,000 more fans a year, and some guy questions him using a team that doesn't draw anything but tumbleweeds as his example.

Agreed.

Because Tom Ricketts has accomplished nothing during his brief ownership of Cubs. On top of that, attendance has decreased significantly since he acquired the team. Why is he talking s*** exactly? Until the Cubs become competitive, he should avoid taking cheap shots at other teams.

I think there is a difference between "talking s***" and making a spontaneous, innocuous joke, which is the case here. He did not go on and on about the White Sox. He made one little joke.

It is cute to see the Cubs ownership insecure about their own product. It tells me that Cubs ownership has the White Sox progress in the back of their minds, otherwise Ricketts dismisses the question instead of giving a response like a message board poster would.

If the White Sox can overachieve a bit, and the Cubs continue their floundering under .500 we could see the start of a real shift in this town.

Why do we care what Tommy Boy thinks about the sox? This is the same guy that finally gets to rebuild Wrigley, and he f***ed it up on the first try! We get to see outfielders struggle to not his scaffolding in april and may!

Bingo, great post. Tom the idiot is trying to cover up his incompetence.

You would think he would spend more time trying to get the Cubs out of last place. It must be nice to spend the type of money his father made. I would of liked to have been born into wealth. Your perspective of life has to be different. I've seen many kids run their family business into the ground. He rubs me as if he has all the capabilities of going broke somewhere down the line. If it wasn't for his daddies money he would be shining shoes for a living.

If I'm a betting man, I'd bet on Cubs attendance increasing significantly. Not saying they will be good, but there is at least some buzz around the team, way more than the past 3 off-seasons combined.

more likely the brokers sell the stock they have been unable to move in years past. I doubt we'll see much "new" sales. it'll be the people already locked into plans selling their wares.

Sox won a world series, and not much changed. And that was with cub teams that were horrible in 05-06

all great points, the northsiders has this mystic of loosing and the fans

will embrace they all the more.

the sox need to have a cut throat attitude and win, who gives the fvvcke

of the other team, continue to win for consecutive yrs with exciting players

and the fan base will turn around.

I agree. When the renovations are complete at Wrigley Field, it will be Brooks Boyer or whoever handles this type of question at Soxfest getting questioned about why Wrigley has something USCF does not.

Sox fans need to go to the games, then pop off. I agree with staying away when the team is terrible, but for all the things White Sox fans say they are embarrassed by 2012 attendance should be at the top of the list.

I am continually amazed, how Cub fans can be so attached to such an irrelevant number as attendance. Do I care that the sox might draw 15k to any given game? No...in fact, i love it because i can get awesome pricing for any seat in the house.

But someone tell me, from a fan perspective why this is any more important than the product on the field?

the Sox and sox's fans are like the annoying flying insect at a barq party.

no matter how hard it is they just can't get rid off us.

we as fans and the sox as an org are constantly show the total scope of

the northside incompetency.
