I thought this was going to be a "would you want this good thing, at a cost of this bad thing?"

Instead it's "Would you want this good thing, and then also this even better thing?"

So to answer your question......hell yes, and hell yes.

I figured you would have expected this post to be about s***. Well, it actually kinda sorta is.

At that price I would sign Shields if Danks is traded or not.

This. Wasn't it after the deadline last year when Hahn said he almost traded Danks but they couldn't agree to the players and amount of moving changing hands? I say move him for whoever will get you the most money off the books.

Could the Sox get creative to add some more guaranteed money? Like a 4 year deal, 5th year option with a 5 mill buy out to guarantee an extra 5 mill on top of whatever he signs for for the 4 years.

if, and this is a big if, JR and owners are having kittens on spending this

money and can't come up with the extra to get someone. do you honestly

think he will ok a long term money commitment???

Sign James Shields if his price tag does indeed fall to around 4 years 75 million and it means being able to trade John Danks?

Sure. But how would signing Shields relate to being able to trade John Danks?

It would affect the need to trade him, but not really the ability...

Shields would be fine, but nobody wants Danks at the money he is owed.
