BridgeportHeather
Cotts on the bump tomorrow to try and finish off the series, in a 1:00 matinee. Has Cotts had any other starts since his demotion? If so, how did he look?

Rex Hudler
Just that one where he pitched rather poorly. WAY TO GO BARONS He had one start.... pitched just two innings as a tuneup for the playoffs..... Walked none, but gave up five hits and five runs, only one was earned.. I wouldn't say he pitched poorly because he didn't walk anyone. With any defense he would have been out of the inning with just one or two runs. There were two misplays as well as an error that didn't help him any. I think he was so focused on not walking anyone that he got the middle of the plate more than normal, like he overadjusted. It certainly wasn't his best stuff either, but I wouldn't call it poor. Hopefully he gets into a rhythm tomorrow and gets through the first two innings. If he can do that, I think he will be fine. Rex Hudler
By the way, our pitchers have owned Stars CF Dave Krynzel, but that guy can absolutely go get it in CF. He made two plays in Huntsville Wednesday night that were ESPN Top 10 easily! Both plays were within five feet of each other but several innings apart. In both, he made a catch running full speed into the gap, crashing into the wall hard immediately after making the catch. Both times the collision knocked him on his ass. He got up slowly, but caught them both. Both were absolutely outstanding plays.... jawdroppers if you will...
winninguglyin83
Rex: YOu have probably answered these questions before, but I'll ask anyway: What is your assessment of Yofu as a major-league prospect? And bullard? And Meaux? And Bajenaru, while I'm at it? I'm aware Yofu is older, but he's had some great outings this summer. Bullard seems to have found his niche in the pen. Meaux is the lefty we got from SF for Durham, but he's older and has been slow to advance in the minors although his numbers have been very solid. And Bajenaru is coming back from surgery. Which of the four has the best chance to make the club next year if the bullpen is reshuffled?

Which of the four has the best chance to make the club next year if the bullpen is reshuffled? Damn, can you squeeze more questions in one post?? Well here goes.... Yofu's window is next year. I don't see him having much of a chance to make a splash if he doesn't make it at some point next year. He has done well here, albeit not dominant. I think he has a tendency to lose aggressiveness and doesn't throw his fastball (which he can run up to 92-93) enough. He doesn't walk guys, knows how to pitch and has experience. I'm not sure how signing a 29-yr old free agent works, so he may be a free agent after this season. Bullard certainly has found his niche. He has pitched very well as of late, including the last two playoff games. He definitely has a shot to make it as a lefty out of the pen. Meaux I am not sure about. He seems to have pretty good stuff and has pitched well for us, but nothing jumps out about him for me. You never know with lefties, but I would think if Meaux has a realistic shot, it is at least a year away. Bajenaru has rebounded really well coming off of surgery. He has been very good. He had a bit of a rough stretch right after Ring was traded when the bullpen roles changed (as did the whole bullpen), but he has stepped it up since becoming the closer. Take one really s***ty outing out and his ERA drops from 3.20 to 2.15. He has only allowed earned runs in 10 of his 50 games pitched. He has a good arm and definitely has a chance to be a middle reliever/setup guy. Timing will be the key with him. He is a RH and is not big, so if he does not seize the opportunity when it comes, he may not get another. All of these guys give the Sox good depth and options. Not all of them may make a splash in the Majors, but they are all well-respected pitchers with some value.
MnSoxFan
Was wondering what his ERA would be without that one outing where he took one for the staff when he had nothing. I remember you telling me that the next morning Rex.

I remember you telling me that the next morning Rex. Yeah, he gave up eight earned runs that night.......... He has one other outing in May where he gave up four earned runs.... other than that, he hasn't given up more than two all year...... winninguglyin83
Rex: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. The guy who intrigues me the most is Meaux. He has pitched really well the last two years, but nobody really talks much about him -- probably because he is only 5-11 and will turn 25 in October. As always, if you can get one of those pitchers to delier at the big-league level you're thankful. Two and you are overjoyed. FYI == Saw Liefer and Parque pitch in the International League playoffs. Parque pitched pretty well for five innings and then tired. Was throwing 85-86 so his velocity is still down slightly. Liefer was the same -- trying to jerk everything over the right field fence. Also noticed that Matt Guerrier pitched a three-hit complete game for Nashville in the Pacific Coast League playoffs last night
