shysocks
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 07:15 AM) Takes some blame for pushing Hawkins too fast. Been waiting a year to hear that now. I wasn't posting here when that quote about giving Hawkins an "attitude adjustment" or whatever came out, but it nearly sent me on a rampage. What a ridiculous way to handle one of your top prospects.

Nice guy, though. In the Reinsdorf Ring of Loyalty as Flavum so eloquently put it. Will be tough to move out, but moving him at least completely away from personnel would be nice. Jerksticks
The absolute best lessons in life and work are learned through complete failure. So I for one am glad the CH got exposed. Clearly he needed to learn that his swing/eye won't play up levels. Back to the drawing board kid. I'm not against what happened.

Will be tough to move out, but moving him at least completely away from personnel would be nice. He's a good guy do deal with the media but I do not want him to have anything to do with making baseball decisions. I think that the Sox should promote Jeremey Haber, who is Hahn's right hand man and assistant to Ast. GM and Bell should be a special assistant like Thome. Bell was the guy that said no to Williams when he was offered the manager job in 2011. And thome is the guy that they will hire after ventura gets fired. caulfield12
I don't believe they can afford to take that chance with a completely inexperienced manager again. That definitely wasn't one of his better interviews. He should have redirected and taken the opportunity to discuss Anderson, Montas and Adams, the three breakthrough players from last year. It's a pretty amazing/cool story, but he's not prepared to do talent evaluation yet. The White Sox had another guy, Mike Gellinger, working with video and advance scouting but I believe he encountered some health problems. They even had him coach Third or First a couple of times as a fill-in. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...er-assistant-gm Edited January 31, 2015 by caulfield12

When the owner says "jim thome will be a manager one day", that's when you know he's ventura's replacement. That said, I wish bell took the job in 2011. I belive they would have made the postseason in 2012 with a veteran manager.

Do you think a veteran manager would have prevented all the injuries or created a makeshift bench with more talent?

All 3 of his stops which includes Detroit, the team won more games the year before he managed, and the year after he left than they did when he was managing, Maybe it is a coincidence, but listening to what he had to say abiut clear busts, would make one think not. Thad Bosley
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 31, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) When the owner says "jim thome will be a manager one day", that's when you know he's ventura's replacement. If that's the case, why is Thome wasting time in this nebulous "special assistant" position he's in and instead learning the finer points of the craft by managing one of the team's minor league teams? Must the only criteria for a White Sox manager be simply "Former Sox player/Reinsdorf favorite/no prior managerial experience"?

Must the only criteria for a White Sox manager be simply "Former Sox player/Reinsdorf favorite/no prior managerial experience"? He probably feels as if he does not need that miinor league experience, that he will get that experience in his first year or two of managing in the big leagues. I agree with your recommendation, but baseball's stars don't feel that way anymore.
caulfield12
Jim Thome doesn't strike me as someone who would be naturally arrogant enough to think he would be well-prepared to manage without any minor league experience. The thing is, if Ventura "fails" this year, you can't turn around and do the same exact thing...hiring another totally inexperienced guy, that would be borderline insane for Hahn after the work he's put into building this team. caulfield12
Double-A will present a greater challenge for the 21-year-old outfielder — at that level, “you better know your swing,” Capra said — but if he’s able to pass the tests in Birmingham, it’ll be at that point he can finally start thinking about making his major league debut. “They have a plan,” Hawkins said. “Whatever their plan is, we gotta go along with it. We gotta buy into it. We gotta trust into it and go with it.” Not sure we should be in love with that quote...but being optimistic/hopeful. www.csnchicago.com
