Samardzija Extension?

Dunt

Recommended Posts

I started to think about this over the weekend and I wanted to get everyones opinion here. How do you want the Sox to proceed with the Samardzija extension? Part of me would like them to get him locked up and have a rock solid 1-4 for the next 4-5 years. On the other hand, Rodon will be a full-time figure in the rotation next year and Danish and Montas have the chance to maybe break as well, so maybe invest that money elsewhere and get the comp pick?

Do a poll--

1) Will sign during spring training

2) Will sign April 6 -July 17

3) Will be traded during season

4) Will sign July 17-October 4

5) Will sign after the season, but in exclusive signing window

6) Will sign with Sox after becoming full free agent

7) Will not sign with Sox

If you are a fan of his and want him signed, the fact that there seems to be more guys in competition for his kind of money than ever before next offseason, may make him think to take what he can and not be left holding the bag.

If most of the free agent to be guys do make it to free agency, next offseason is going to be fascinating.

I think it's almost all upon the White Sox. Jeff has stated how he disliked playing for the Cubs and the attitude they have up there. I think if the White Sox stay in it near the trade deadline and make a move to get better, he signs long term with the club and passes on FA.

I'd be ok with 4/80 to 5/105

I don't like this thread title.

Yeah, should have a ? after it.

Makes people think when they come to the site a deal has already been struck.

My first impression was surprise, but also a feeling that $100+ isn't the type of money the White Sox usually allocate to starting pitchers in their 30's, no matter what the previous wear and tear on their arm/shoulder/elbow has been.

Now if Rodon/Danish/Montas completely flop this season (think Matt Davidson's equivalent as pitchers...or Erik Johnson 2014), then I'd be at least more willing to consider it. You'd have to, in Hahn's position.

I think even then it's a bit misleading, as if there are actual rumors/unconfirmed reports out there. Something like "any chance of a Samardzija extension?" would probably convey the idea a little better...

Agreed, I expected some rumor about how we're working on a deal with him

He'll be looking for at least six years and I bet he'll get it.

I dont think Jeff ever said he disliked playing for the Cubs, I think he disliked that Theo and Jed didnt see him in their future plans and were not willing to pay him what he felt he was worth

I want to say it was an article in the Tribune or it was on ESPN 1000. Basically said it's nice to finally play for a team in Chicago that cares about winning.

Well yea, he didnt like being part of a rebuild, who would? It cant be fun being in the middle of your prime while the team is being torn down around you and rebuilt, without being in those rebuild plans. But he didnt really put it the way you said it, I never heard him say he didnt like playing for the Cubs.

Samardzija was part of the tear down, Lester theoretically will be the beneficiary of that teardown and be part of the upswing.

And yea, Lester got paid and Samardzija did not

What about 5/120?

I wouldn't be happy, but I'd hope we have a new TV deal in place or Jerry wins the lottery by that point.

Yeah, I think that it is a bit too high. I would go 5/110 with a team option for a 6th year at 18 million.
