caulfield12
At one point, he was favored at 19% to end up with the Tigers, so at least that didn't happen. He always seemed to hit well in Comerica.

caulfield12
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) Where do these odds come from? Just a poll at MLBtraderumors if you search for his name. Last weekend, I asked which team was the most likely to acquire Viciedo. The Tigers were the favorite destination at nearly 19 percent, while the Phillies and Giants each checked in around 15 percent. Kyyle23
well, random internet person polls are what i base my odds on. Vegas, here I come!
caulfield12
It's not Nate Silver, that said, it's sometimes interesting to see the perceptions out there... Of course, the Tigers already have Rajai Davis/Gose, Cespedes and JD Martinez, and it's probably simply speculation about Victor Martinez being out into the regular season, along with the fact that Viciedo profiles similarly to Delmon Young, POTENTIALLY. (Of course, you never want him anywhere but RF in Comerica with all that ground to cover). Or maybe speculation that he would want to be around another Cuban or play for a pennant contender, who knows...in a familiar division. The Indians were one of the other main teams linked in terms of interest.

Kyyle23
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 07:13 AM) The real Vegas sharks kill it on the Dayan Viciedo signing prop bets "How many times Dayan drops the ball before he throws it in" "Will he catch it?" "Will he strike out on 3 straight face high fastballs?" "Odds that he takes a walk this week?"
SoxAce
Heh... Viciedo seems like the last player Beane would want with the A's philosophy/style.

Eh, talented player, low cost, it's a fit. It's not like he signed him to a 3 year, $30 million deal.

Swingandalongonetoleft
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 07:30 AM) Heh... Viciedo seems like the last player Beane would want with the A's philosophy/style. Billy Beane knows that the Sox are going to develop a pressing need for Viciedo, and that he will in turn be able to have his way with their farm system. Really though, I think he's probably just banking on the chance that he'll be able to flip him to someone, probably looking for power, for something- provided Viciedo doesn't s*** his pants in the batters box. witesoxfan
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 08:55 AM) Billy Beane knows that the Sox are going to develop a pressing need for Viciedo, and that he will in turn be able to have his way with their farm system. Really though, I think he's probably just banking on the chance that he'll be able to flip him to someone, probably looking for power, for something- provided Viciedo doesn't s*** his pants in the batters box. I would put the odds of Billy Beane getting value out of Dayan Viciedo at 100:1. There's no need to overthink this. It took Viciedo like 2-3 weeks to find a suitor at virtually no cost. Viciedo is still young, and he's still talented. Whether that talent will ultimately translate is an entirely different story.
NorthSideSox72
For all those wondering why Hahn wouldn't or couldn't trade the guy... he's now struggling to find a minor league deal.
caulfield12
Crisp and Reddick are set. There's the Fuld/Gentry spot, but that would push Crisp back into CF to make room for Viciedo in LF. The problem is Billy Butler blocking him at DH, and the size of that outfield in OAK again. They also have Ike Davis/Freiman for 1B, although neither of those guys are sure things by any stretch of the imagination. Ravelo will also get some consideration, but probably not until next year. caulfield12
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) For all those wondering why Hahn wouldn't or couldn't trade the guy... he's now struggling to find a minor league deal. Because he was waiting for a major league deal and then settled for a situation where there MIGHT be an opening, either in the outfield, DH or 1B. southsider2k5
The A's seem to be in search of power bats regularly. It goes as contra to the A's stereotype, but the reality is this could fit a need.
caulfield12
Looks like Viciedo will make $20K per month if he doesn't make the major league roster. About $850,000 (total) if he never sets foot on a major league diamond this year, not bad. With the Saunders injury, though, the door is at least ajar to be a platoon DH and part-time OF through mid-May.
