Well, that isn't what my google search of Stoops pulled out. He's in the top 10 on coacheshotseats.com rankings as well and even had some comments about how critical this upcoming season will be. If he doesn't take big steps forward, he's on his way out. Either way, what a loser hire that would be for Notre Dame.

I wouldnt have him in my top 5 candidates for ND, there are plenty of better options. ND will always recruit well, you need someone who can actually coach them up and I'd start with the giant pool of successful coaches that were one time ND assistants.

I actually really like this move. Paul DePodesta is a smart guy and isn't only analytics based. I could see Chip Kelly working there now actually.....

They have a lawyer and a baseball guy now running their football team. Such a Browns thing to do.

Much like I see no real way Alshon Jeffery doesn't stay a Bear in '16, I see virtually no chance Martellus Bennett is a Bear in '16. #Bears

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears GM Ryan Pace called LT Charles Leno a "pleasant surprise". Also all but confirmed Long will stay at T.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

GM Ryan Pace speaking very highly of RB Matt Forte. Says he the type of player the #Bears want.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

Pace also says he does not feel like relationship between TE Martellus Bennett & the team has been "strained".

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

GM Ryan Pace echoing same sentiment I've been saying. #Bears unlikely to spend big on that one top FA. None likely to be available.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears continue to remain positive with impending FA LB Shea McClellin. Would be shocked if he isn't back.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears GM Ryan Pace expects WR Kevin White to be "full speed" during offseason programs.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears GM Ryan Pace "I'm excited about what we got going here."

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

GM Ryan Pace confirming the #Bears will have to use FA more than usually for the first few years to get the talent they want.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears GM Ryan Pace says he plans to build the offense around QB Jay Cutler.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears GM Ryan Pace "We just need to keep adding more playmakers."

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears HC John Fox confirms he doesn't expect any changes w/ staff outside of Gase.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears GM Ryan Pace called Kyle Fuller an "ascending player". Happy with his progress as season went on.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 1h1 hour ago

#Bears know Alshon Jeffery's talent level & overall ability but stressed today that health/durability is a part of the eval process.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 2h2 hours ago

#Bears could have up to $70-75M in cap space. Expect them to spend on young/long-term players with good production high upside.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 1h1 hour ago

Just to put things in perspective. #Bears will have about 2x as much cap space & 3 more picks than '14.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 1h1 hour ago

#Bears signed 3 FAs to multi-year deals & spent more than $2M on 4 different FAs. W/ twice the space, expect close to twice the signings.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 1h1 hour ago

I would expect to see 4-6 multi-year "impact signings" of above average players. Biggest key: age. Expect most of them under 28. #Bears

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 57m57 minutes ago

Have been told that ILB & OL are going to be the #Bears main priorities this offseason.

DE will be another need. They could use another pure pass rusher. Derek Wolfe is a name to watch for.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 42m42 minutes ago

Aaron Leming Retweeted joe poogle

Solid FA options out there right now. Berry tops that list but unlikely. Rodney McLeod is a name to watch. #Bears

I like the move for the Browns. Other sports have shown that coming from a different sport or industry doesn't prevent success. The same old tired attempts weren't working, why not try something different? The results can't be any worse.

I agree with you. This seems to me like the Browns are taking a fresh look at things. If this was another organization, they'd be lauded. Because it is the Browns, we laugh. It actually seems very anti-browns. Although, they did hire Depodesta after a bunch of questionable moves made in the past day or so by them. Paul has his issues, but he's a pretty accomplished guy in the grand scheme of things and has an understanding of what it takes to be a successful sports organization. The fact that his background in baseball doesn't preclude him from bringing success here.

His job isn't to identify the talent, it is to help create a positive and successful organizational culture and dynamic and ensure that works. He can also think strategically and understand the potential value in investments in analytics, etc, and potentially create a newer dynamic to the NFL. NBA and MLB have moved to being very pro advanced stats, but the NFL hasn't gotten their yet, imo. You'd have to think an evolution will get their. Bill B is really one of the few who leverages it (along with Chip), but you wonder where and how else it can truly be used / leveraged.

I also think a key question to the whole Chip fiasco is understanding what he learned from his time with the Eagles. I still think he's a great coach, but the question is did he learn from his mistakes in Philly to understand the potential limitations and if he did, than I think he could be an excellent hire. He's an easy target to blast, but if I were a team, out of all the candidates, presuming he answers the aforementioned question well (and it comes off as believable), I would take him over almost any other candidate (outside of Sean Payton).

I honestly wouldn't trade Houston or Young, both of them were a lot better and more noticeable as the season went on. Houston already got a good chunk of his money and his contract isn't terrible, and Young is on a very team friendly contract. The Bears already have a crazy amount under the cap as it is, I don't really think it is necessary

Yeah, they were sneaky good. The 2 of them combined for 13.5 sacks in 857 snaps. The 13.5 sacks would have been good for 4th in the league, and for comparison, Watt and Mack, 1 and 2 in the league in sacks both had over 900 snaps.

I would trade Willie Young.

Considering he quietly asked for a trade earlier in the year and didn't have much to say with the media on his way out, I would as well. I commend him and Houston on transitioning in a 3-4 defense but they are not true 3-4 guys other than rushing the QB.
