shipps
Some previous Redskins exec/scout was on the radio this morning claiming that McPhee is a great pass rusher but has no ability to play the run at all. I have seen very little of him. Does anyone know how true this is?
T R U
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) Some previous Redskins exec/scout was on the radio this morning claiming that McPhee is a great pass rusher but has no ability to play the run at all. I have seen very little of him. Does anyone know how true this is? Its true, hes not really an every down player. Hes a pass rush specialist, still pretty useful and its not like they unloaded the truck for him.
T R U
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Certainly looks that way. But this is a good draft for them to start loading up on defense again and to finally find some WR depth. It is crazy the NFL disparity. Obviously with 52 players, there is going to be some less impact in total salaries. But it is insane considering the billions in that league how basically the top players (QBs) are talking 60 million contracts (when guarantees are factored in only), and that was basically Melky Cabrera, somewhat sought after LF. A couple things to consider is the NFL has a hard salary cap, and also most of these guys are only playing 16 games as opposed to 162 or 82. GoSox05
Fake accounts on Twitter that act just like NFL reporters are dumb. I guess the Packers didn't sign Bulaga. Edited March 9, 2015 by GoSox05
bmags
QUOTE (TRU @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) A couple things to consider is the NFL has a hard salary cap, and also most of these guys are only playing 16 games as opposed to 162 or 82. But money wise, just because baseball has 140+ more games does not make it more profitable than football. I'm just amazed how little the football players union has gotten for these guys. I'm completely aware of the rules, just amazed they haven't guaranteed contracts yet.

bmags
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) I also want Shane Ray if he falls to Bears for obvious Mizzou homer reasons, also they should sign Sam. Go Mizzou. Apparently Ray is slipping on draft boards. Wouldn't mind trading back. I get so annoyed with pseudo scouts on bears boards all claiming that Ray doesn't have good tape. Ray might not have good size measurables, but nobody can tell me he didn't have good tape. He had 4-5 moves he used on a regular basis, and when Golden was out teams wouldn't even run to his side. Also, whens the last time that guy was actively working as a scout? There is always some guy with another opinion especially when their current position is as a radio personality. There is always some guy with another opinion especially when their current position is as a radio personality. He didnt identify him as a scout(Shipps did), he is the Baltimore pre and post game guy now. So he has seen McPhee every game he has played. I would think his opinion as a former scout and current radio coverage of the players former team would hold a little bit of weight I get that everyone has opinions, but his points werent all critical. He just mentioned that his knees are an issue(they are) and that he hasnt been a full time starter

Don't forget that an NFL roster has 55 guys and 22 starters, whereas a baseball roster has 14 starters and a closer, in addition to only 25 man rosters. bmags
Now that I think about it, these mega TV dealsa re just now becoming the norm. I think I should probably re-visit in 2020 to see what the league player deals look like.

shipps
Bears free agent defensive tackle Stephen Paea is closing in on a four-year deal with Washington, per a report from Comcast SportsNet’s Jen Lada. Paea had a productive season for the Bears in 2014, finishing third on the team with six sacks.

Soxfest
Bears agreed to terms with OLB Pernell McPhee on a five-year, $40 million contract. The deal includes nearly $16 million in guarantees. McPhee played behind Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil last year, but still posted 7.5 sacks, 64 quarterback pressures and 24 quarterback hits while lining up everywhere from nose tackle to defensive end. He was PFF's No. 2 3-4 OLB, behind only Justin Houston. It's an excellent get for the Bears, who now have themselves a difference-maker for a defense that was ranked 30th in both 2013 and 2014.
