Bold Prediction for Avisail Garcia

I think Avi is going to absolutely rake this year. Whether he's going to hit behind, bewteen, or in front of the Abreu/LaRoche duo he's going to get a lot of pitches to hit.

My bold prediction.... .290/.330/.480 with 18 HR's 85 RBI's and 10 steals.

So what do you guys think? Crazy? Or Agree

A .190 ISO will be hard to achieve with just 18 HRs. Assuming he gets 550 at bats and he doesn't hit more than like 3 triples, he would have to hit around 45 doubles. If he gets 600 at bats, he would need around 50 2Bs.

My prediction is that Avisail will be the source of much frustration and consternation for Eminor3d, either for succeeding and exceeding all expectations and forcing eminor to admit he was wrong, or by doing exactly what eminor thinks he will do.

Post of the Day

Yea I was gonna say that's like a 2.5 or 3.5 WAR season depending on his defense. Personally I think Avi is going to have a solid year, but a 2.5 WAR season from him guarantees nothing really. It certainly helps but Sox need more production from more spots for a division title.

I get the feeling Avi will be a 15-20 homer and 35 -40 double kind of hitter.

That is as bold as a double scoop of Vanilla ice cream

You got me pegged :D

Honestly, I really really hope I have to admit I'm wrong. I hope he defies all logic and precedent and just has so much talent that he becomes amazing despite having no idea how to play baseball. I'll gladly grow old telling young fans about how insane it was to watch Avisail Garcia succeed.

EDIT: Now, what WILL ruin my season is if Dayan Viciedo breaks out for Toronto. F that.

I think he will eventually be closer to the 25-30 homer range. In his time with the Sox he's hit a homer every 27 at bats. That puts him at a 20-22 homer pace for a full season and I don't think his power has peaked yet. He hits the s*** out of the ball, he just needs to learn how to elevate.

I don't see that as his swing though.

His career groundball rate would make Juan Pierre proud. They talk about him hitting the ball as far as anyone in batting practice. If he gets it in the air during actual games, he could be a really big HR guy.

Not unless he remakes his swing plane.

I think this is related to his legendarily bad pitch selection. I'm less worried about his swing plane as I am about his ability to wait for pitches he can really drive.

Someone did a study once that showed evidence that Starlin Castro's incredible hitting ability actually created a developmental problem for him, where he never learned what he SHOULDN'T hit, because there really was never much he COULDN'T hit. I think Jeff Sullivan found some evidence that Moustakas had a similar issue last year. These guys are so good at making contact that they make a TON of bad contact out of the zone.

Sometimes, that'll mean fishing out a gapper from his shoelaces like we saw Avi do yesterday. More often, though, it's going to mean groundouts.

That makes sense. Either way, he groundball rate is going to need to drop for him to be valuable. He seems to have a really good attitude.

I definitely value tools more than stats when looking at young players. I'm probably at the opposite end as Eminor. With that said, I totally agree with him about Avi. He's got some major red flags. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it.

I just don't see the red flags personally. All he's done in his 500 or so MLB PA is hold his own, many of those coming before he turned 23. Yea he hits a lot of ground balls, he also carries a career .329 BABIP which means he's fast to first and hits the ball rather hard even on the ground. Cut the grass a little shorter at the Cell!

Seriously though if he struggles to do anything more than 260/300/400 this year then yea, he's little more than a below average starter given his likely difficutlies in RF, but if he goes say 280/330/460 then he's back on track to have a solid 10 year career in RF for the Sox.

This guy is raw, despite breaking into the bigs at 20. The Tigers jerked him around and the injury obviously messed him up last year. That he was even able to hold his own after missing 3+ months was impressive to me.

He even played winter ball, not something many guys with his talent and big league experience would even bother with, coming off an injury or not. He works hard and has tremendous tools. It doesn't always work out, and the production so far hasn't been there, but hey, progress is not always linear.

You have summed up my feelings of Avi exactly.

He and DV are basically the same player.
