LittleHurt05
"When you win," McClendon said, grinning, "you have great chemistry. I played on teams that had players that didn't get along well at all, but they won. /thread
NorthSideSox72
This always seems to be made more complicated than it is. Do personalities matter in a clubhouse? Of course, they are human beings. Can "chemistry" effect a team? Also, of course. Can it be measured or predicted? Absoutely not.
Eminor3rd
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) /thread QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) This always seems to be made more complicated than it is. I think these two posts, combined, are it. Chemistry will be a scapegoat if the team sucks, no matter what the real issue is. It'll be lauded as a hero if the team succeeds, no matter what the real cause is. But it's a chicken & egg issue. Everyone's happy winning and they make friends with one another; everyone's upset losing, and they'll irritate each other.

SoxFan562004
yeah, poster who summed it up saying it's likely a factor but one that's impossible to predict. The great As teams use to have fist fights in the clubhouse.

We should just pin this and direct any threads on chemistry to this quote. I believe a more subtle thing may be how free agents view coming to the Sox. No body wants to pick a crappy place to work. ILMOU
Anyone whose fandom stretches back to the 70's should have the proper perspective on this topic. The dynasties of that decade - The Finley A's, Big Red Machine and Reggie's Yankees were all filled with players that couldn't stand one another. It's been described succinctly above - "winning creates good chemistry, losing creates bad chemistry"
Dick Allen
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 09:24 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballn...ic-big-12-title Or you can copy and paste the back end of this article about how Hoiberg runs the Cyclone program. Lovie was always ripped fot "not having the fire". The White Sox lose, Robin "doesn't have a pulse". Iowa State wins after being down big, Hoiberg not flying off the handle being down 15, or using timeouts, is genius.mthe team chemistry moves the same way. Win, everything was great. Same locker room and lose, there were problems, somewhere.
