Eminor3rd
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) Ramirez is more proven. Not sure why you would want to switch the two in the line up with Gillaspie hitting 6th and Ramirez 7th. Just to maintain the LRLRLRLRLR theme. I like the idea that they can't bring in a platoon setup specialist and mow down multiple guys later in the game.
MiddleCoastBias
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Than Gillaspie? I don't think we have one. Unless you want Cabrera there, but that creates a much bigger hole at #2. Heh.
BigHurt3515
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) Just to maintain the LRLRLRLRLR theme. I like the idea that they can't bring in a platoon setup specialist and mow down multiple guys later in the game. No matter what you will have two RH hitters together. It would either be Garcia-Ramirez after LaRoche or Ramirez-Flowers after Gillaspie The lineup that was posted today was: L-S-R-L-R-R-L-R-L Oh, you were wanting to move Johnson too. chitownsportsfan
nice job by Garcia he looks good. Got his pitch, waited nicely, and ripped it into left.
BigHurt3515
The good thing with Micah/Eaton hitting back to back is neither are bad hitters against LHP. Eaton hit .299 last year and Micah hit .300 in AAA last year and is hitting over .400 against LHP in the spring

Ugh I agree, I'm starting to think catcher is the weakest spot. It took a .350 BABIP for him to be worth anything. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen again. At best he's a 1 WAR catcher. chitownsportsfan
Shuck is getting a long look this spring. Lots of PA. Little baltimore chopper over the mound for an infield hit. Kuma's splitter is deadly today.
chitownsportsfan
Micah continues to rake. Little splitter from Kuma didn't do much, sat up nicely Micah takes it into LF solid single. Edited March 17, 2015 by chitownsportsfan

It took a .350 BABIP for him to be worth anything. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen again. At best he's a 1 WAR catcher. "At best" he's better than a 1 WAR catcher since he just eclipsed that and has done it before without the high BABIP. What about his .261 BABIP in 2013 when he played hurt all year? That was the only major league season where he really wasn't worth anything. ZiPS likes him the most at a 95 wRC+ and 1.5 WAR, Steamer likes him the least with a 75 wRC+ and 0.7 WAR, and everything else is in between. I'd say "most likely" he's a 1 WAR catcher and we can live with that.

I'd say "most likely" he's a 1 WAR catcher and we can live with that. Fair enough. Good catchers are hard to find. Having a guy that is proven 1 WAR catcher isn't the end of the world but I just feel Flowers has zero margin for error. If he doesn't have a BABIP of .300 or higher he's going to slash 190/230/340. Plus, aesthetically, like Rock said, the guy is hard to watch.
