Cain accuses Shark of intentional plunking

I think it's really REALLY stupid to get mad at a team or batter for "showboating". It's a freaking game. You're supposed to be amped up when you do something good. Football players jump around like kids when they make a play. Basketball players pump their fists and get excited after a play. PITCHERS pump their fists when they get a big strike out. A batter hits a home run and even looks at it too long, and stupid people get an attitude.

To hell with baseball and it's outdated and arcane unwritten rules. They should lighten up. It's a freaking game.

I am not upset with any of the actions on either side and I think being upset with the Royals' guys is borderline homerism. I am not sure that Ventura hit Garcia on purpose, but the Sox had a right to respond and considering it was Samardzija's first start he wanted to show the type of guy he is. Moustakas is a douchebag to other teams' fans but I am sure the Royals fans love his energy. If he got pumped up after hitting a home run in front of 45K so be it but it's understandable that his teammate might get a bruise for it.

1.) Ventura hits Avi. Maybe it's an accident, maybe it isn't but it doesn't matter.

2.) Samardzija immediately comes at Hosmer to warn them. Awesome on Shark's part.

3.) Samardzija hits Gordon - fine, the Sox owed them one.

4.) Moustakas showboats after a homer - it's OD and a big day for KC and he's that type of guy, whatever. He knows the potential consequence but either way I don't think what he did was ridiculous.

5.) Samardzija hits Cain - 2 for 1 mentality, Moustakas just showboated, fine.

6.) Cain gets upset he was hit and he should have, it was an obvious plunking.

I think everyone acted in accordance with baseball's rules given the circumstances of each individual situation. The true winner here was the umpires. They let the players play the game.

Plus it's hard to fault a guy for how he acts after getting plunked. If I were struck with a baseball moving 90 MPH, I would literally curl into a ball and cry for 20 minutes.

Most of these players went through the US public schools where everything is pussified. Everyone is suppose to win and we can't celebrate success.

LMAO WHAT IS THIS

The difference is that it wasn't a big or important play. It was a home run in the middle of a boring game they were already winning. A game winning hit in the 9th or a big strikeout in a close game is different. Play the game get excited where it's warranted.

None of it matters to me as I'm not playing the game. However I can see why it effects the players the way it does. Does it make it right...no, but they're human and people get ticked off.

If Royals thought it was on purpose, they will plunk Eaton tomorrow.

I like it. We got whooped but I want us to play with an edge all year.

Exactly. I wonder how many of these cry babies could have lasted in the era of the likes of Drysdale or Early Wynn or other pitchers of yester year?

To me, beaning a guy because you just gave up a homer makes Samarjijikukaracha seem a lot more like a cry baby then the Royals.

Part of the problem with doing that is when they call you in to see if it was intentional, it's a little harder to say no. This works fine. No need to get suspended, and the Royals might not act like they won the WS after hitting a homer to make a 3-0 game 4-0.

But it certainly means someone on the Sox is getting drilled tomorrow. Abreu, I'll assume. If Shark did it on purpose, and I don't assume he did, it was idiotic. Not to mention the fact that you'd be putting a base stealer on base in the 5th inning of a 4 run game.

Then there will be a fight in the game. If Abreu gets plunked I guarantee you he's heading to the mound. At least Duffy will be out of the game early.

I would be terrified of fighting Jose Abreu.

The royals just want to feel like they are relevant after last year. They'll be an AL punching bag this year.

Their defense is too good to be a punching bag. I guess if all their starters turned to s*** it's possible they won't repeat. But the bullpen and defense are guaranteed to be excellent this year.
