Dick Allen
Apparently he is good enough where Robin would use him in an emergency or maybe interleague. I know Boston wanted him to play 3B if they signed him.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 12, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) I trust DA but where's the source of this? He's looked very smooth at first in the early going. One of the writers (Merkin maybe?) tweeted Abreu was taking grounders before opening day. Don't know the source of the second part. Don't know the source of the second part. They announced it in the pre-game too, Robin talked about it for interleague/emergency
SCCWS
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 12, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Apparently he is good enough where Robin would use him in an emergency or maybe interleague. I know Boston wanted him to play 3B if they signed him. Dick I don't hink that was Boston. At that time Boston had a glut of SS/3B candidates and the Boston media felt Abreu would play 1st in place of Napoli. But several reports even tempered that by saying that was a temporary spot and they felt Abreu could be heir apparent at DH to Ortiz. Their scouts felt Abreu was a poor defensive player which supposedly is why Boston stopped the bidding at $50 mil. I bet those scouts were redfaced after last year. Bob Sacamano
In NL games, he would probably only play there for 5-6 innings until LaRoche gets a few at bats, then switch over to first with Gillaspie or Beckham coming in the rest. Probably wouldn't do it on a day you don't need much offense though (Sale pitching). Edited April 13, 2015 by soxfan2014
