caulfield12
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 07:20 AM) If EJ remembered how to pitch, the rest of the division/league should become very concerned. Or if Justin Verlander, Luke Hochevar and Kris Medlen pitch like pre-injury, the rest of the division/league should become very concerned. ILMOU
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) Now that Ravelo is gone, Jake Peter is probably the best pure hitter in our system. Which underscores how much we still need some impact bats. Feel pretty good on the pitching front. What new?
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Which underscores how much we still need some impact bats. Feel pretty good on the pitching front. What new? Difference between pure hitter and impact bat. Guys like Anderson, Barnum, even Davidson fall into the latter category, but maybe only Anderson (if that) fits into the former. Peter is a pure hitter who could bring value, but his ceiling is very limited. You want some Jake Peters, but you want Anderson/Barnum types more, and in big numbers because of the flop rate. Feel pretty good on the pitching front. What new? Ya, the offensive talent is so scarce in this system. Anderson is obviously a great looking prospect, but still has so much boom/bust potential. Hawkins, similar to Anderson, has the tools, but again way too much boom/bust. Pitching is terrific, but we have no bats and I still have a hard a lot of uncertainty about this organization developing bats. Trey Michalczewski is so far away from impact and he just has terrible contact issues. Ditto with Barnum. I can't get excited about Jacob May. He's a fourth outfielder at best. There is just a lack of development in this organization of offensive players. Everyone who has contact issues never seems to rectify those issues. Yeah, obviously. The best are both. We especially need the impact type, but those within the Sox system seem more like lottery tickets. Anderson has a chance to hit for average and some power. Hopefully, Adolfo, but he's just a pup. Davidson's had consecutive games without a K - there's something. Need a lot more. And even ONE that felt like a sure thing would be nice. Of course, haven't given up on Hawkins by a long shot. He's one of the most likely to fulfill some promise, but still rather UNlikely, IMO. That, to me, is the fundamental problem, along with the track record of developing such bats. We'll see if an org-wide influence from Steverson can have a positive effect over a couple of years, because we all know we're stuck with Buddy B for LIFE. So if he hits like he did last season, you dont think Peter has some fringe top 100 value? It would be quite a jump, but in a small sample size so far this season, he's looking to build on last season. He is still somewhat age appropriate for his level as well. ILMOU
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 07:02 AM) Here's the recap, featuring the Erik Johnson of Old, Martinez' debut, and Hawkins' first AA HR. Completely OT, but how could anyone named Louie Lechich NOT have a pencil-thin moustache? http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2015/ALL Downright swashbuckling, channeling Errol Flynn. However, we should see a flux of talent from Latin America help on the position player side in the coming years. Even excluding Adalfo, we've committed bigger dollars on position players than pitchers. Hopefully we start seeing the fruits of our increased international spending soon, because our A ball teams don't have much beyond pitching prospects.
