Boopa1219
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) Yet not many changes have been made. Still not sure how Buddy Bell hasn't been replaced yet. They did promote Jeremy Harber to assistant GM, an title he shares with Buddy Bell, but he comes from an analytics and financial background. I do want to want to see Bell replaced, he has done nothing for the system.

I do want to want to see Bell replaced, he has done nothing for the system. The Hawkins decision alone should have gotten people fired. The organization had a string of toolsy outfielders and didn't come close to developing one. The rumor was they were going to take Stroman, as they expected Hawkins to be drafted a few picks before them.
fathom
Just to clarify, I wasn't bashing the decision to draft Hawkins. I was referring to the decision to promote him so aggressively after his debut season.
caulfield12
And obviously with Stroman, he wouldn't be helping this season with the season-ending ACL surgery. They (White Sox) were perfectly willing (twice) to take the risk on Gio Gonzalez, who was a similar, undersized lefty who fell due to durability concerns. Finally, fwiw, you also have to count Crede, Rowand, Durham, Chris Young and Chris Carter. Edited April 16, 2015 by caulfield12
LDF
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 02:30 AM) Am I the only one who has given up on Davidson? It was a good trade idea, just poorly scouted. re - Davidson, i am really close to closing the book on him. i just, in my mind, give him a good chance to prove one way or the other. Nah, I never had high hopes, but he's certainly looking done. Can't be this bad and expect that big of a turnaround. As for Jordan Guerrero, in my mind he showed enough to not go back to Low-A. Maybe I'm early in jumping on the promote someone bandwagon, but I'd like to see him moved to Winston-Salem before June.

I agree I hope they move Guerrero up to A+ team up in tandem again with Wheeler. Glad to see Anderson continuing to hit very well.

The way the Sox generally promote in aggressive fashion with their real prospects, you would have to imagine he would be if he keeps rolling. Y2Jimmy0
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) There's just a shocking lack of offensive potential in the farm. The gap from Anderson to next best offensive prospect is huge. Thankfully the pitching depth is very good. A huge reason for this though is the lack of players that the White Sox signed via international scouting. They still need more time. The farm is much improved but most teams are littered with offensive types from international scouting and the Sox just aren't. Those classes have been better and they have another coming but these guys are 16-19 currently. The guys that would be ready to play A ball are non-existent still from the Wilder era. I may be wrong about this and please tell me if I am but this seems like one reason.
NorthSideSox72
Daily recap here. It's so very early, but it sure does look like the system is trending heavily towards a lot of SP prospect depth (some guys aren't even in starting slots because of the crowd). And yeah, after Anderson, the lack of offensive talent in the org is pretty severely lacking. Trading guys like Semien and (to a lesser extent) Ravelo will tend to make that worse. NorthSideSox72
Of course it is also still very early in the season. Hawkins, Michalczewski, May and a few others still have significant ceilings. And no I'm not quite ready to give up on Davidson yet, especially with some reports of his changed approach at the plate (and I don't mean fluff here, I mean he's driving the ball the other way in games), and multiple people talking about his D being much better. Trayce Thompson seems to be opening well too.
caulfield12
How are C.Rondon and Barnum doing? Sanchez is back in AAA, so that's another guy to monitor as well. Adam Engel?
ILMOU
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) How are C.Rondon and Barnum doing? Sanchez is back in AAA, so that's another guy to monitor as well. Adam Engel? Rondon holding his own with the bat in the early going. Barnum looks like the most improved bat, along with Trayce, but again very early. Engel not hitting much yet. May has had woeful starts in consecutive years. Had a great June last year, so maybe just an adjustment period. Would feel SO much better about the near-future of Sox offense if Hawkins were continuing his hot spring. Needs to find it soon, or mental demons will be a likely obstacle again. Many of the position players promoted during the offseason seem over matched in their new locales. Im not on the ledge, YET, but feeling the best chance for improving position player quality will come from trading pitching prospects. Hoping an impact bat can be found with the 1st pick - if I read on Draft Day that the Sox love the new guy's RAW Power, I'll be looking for a commuter train to jump in front of. Emergence of guys like Guerrero and L Martinez could really help if they have breakthrough seasons. And, Saladino is again a guy I believe deserves a look. If Micah doesn't cut it, he, imo, still provides more upside than Carlos, who I like, but XBH will likely be a rare event, and I believe this team needs more slugging generally. Tyler S has more of a Semien-level of pop. Edited April 16, 2015 by Stan Bahnsen
ChiSoxJon
QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) The Kanny lineup is pretty difficult to follow, there's a distinct dearth of position prospects on the current roster outside of Eddy Alvarez, Brett Austin and Mason Robbins and even those guys are fringy at best. Hopefully Hahn & co. take this year's draft to focus on drafting more position players with upside. Alavrez has been an early disappointment this year but Austin has been playing well all around all Robbins has a viscous swing, wouldn't mind seeing Dansby Swanson later this year in Kanny, although I'd probably take another college arm
