Seriously, so tired of this debate. It seems everyone in the suburbs thinks the stadium would be built next door. What if sox park was built in bridge view by toyota park, is that soooo much more convenient to get to? After all, it's in the "burbs"!

It's asinine. In terms of location, nothing could be more centralized and better capable of public transportation use than the current location (except for the plan from the early 80s that talked about a stadium just north of NW train station (now Ogilive) which would have been amazing.

that would have been amazing as you said...... the sox would have owned chi in the baseball world.... on top add a world series ring to the run, the fans would have been crazy pack.

just another example of poor judgement calls and decision makings.

now if the sox does the rebuild right, yeah maybe loose money for 1 yr, but in the long run..... the sox goes to the playoff. watch out. this team, i believe has the main core there, they can have a special yr..... and we as fans will be on a wild roller coaster of a ride.

i see it. if only.

I have thought that not moving the White Sox into the South Loop has to be the biggest mistake in the history of the franchise. I think JR made a blunder of historic proportion. The franchise would of been much better off in the South Loop than its present location. I can't wait until JR is no longer running the team. I think his overall legacy with the White Sox is not a good one.

Where? The tract of land next to the tracks? Where there would be only ONE access point at Roosevelt?

That's why that site hasn't been developed yet for any project let alone a baseball stadium that holds 45k

That project was predicated by the Bears moving with the sox. And mc sucky already affirmed the Bears ties to the Cubs and refused to partner with the sox.

Oh, and Jim Thompson and Harold Washington made a deal to keep the sox off the Dan Ryan.

The sox in the burbs would draw as bad as the Rays. And that's assuming the sox were playing as well as the Rays.

i don't know... in Addison maybe.... there was some discussion for, if i remember right a place of the 290 right by central exit.

And it was voted down by residents.

Tampa can't draw even when they go to the World Series.

And they have the same arguments sox fans have for the cell:

Too far

Too much traffic

Bad neighborhood

Nothing to do nearby

Boring stadium

Can't take the kids on weekdays

Do you have a spare billon dollars to fix that?

By my condo, there is is a rough intersection thanks to railroad viaducts built in the early 1900's. My alderman said the cost to modernize this one intersection( remove some of the beams and help motorists get by with less accidents) would

Cost the city 300 million dollars.

Needless to say , that intersection remains the same. Do you honestly think the city and state have the money to move railroad tracks ( several lanes worth) and build a tunnel at 16th and Clark for a baseball stadium? And one that won't have nearly as many parking spots as the cell?

Keep in mind this offer by the City of Chicago in the South Loop was made in the late 1980's. From what I know the White Sox refused the South Loop offer and the City of Chicago went in another direction. To the best of my knowledge there's a Target store there now with other retail. It was a much more desirable location for a stadium then where the Cell is now. Ironically former White Sox owner Art Allyn wanted to build a stadium for the White Sox at that South Loop location with PRIVATE funds in 1967. Mayor Daley wouldn't give Allyn the permits to build the stadium. After Daley wouldn't allow him to build the stadium that's when Allyn tinkered with moving the team to Milwaukee. Bruce Levine had a column on this subject last year.

i never knew this topic took a sudden turn that the relocation of sox park is on the agenda again. i find this sudden comment of your mere attempt to amuse yourself, but to come across so superior and intelligent with you witty banter.

as for my humble defense, i was just attempting to fill in the blanks if needed by some who may not have known of the whole situation, maybe b/c of age.

with today economy, i will ever doubt that will come to be. that sucks b/c the attendance will be a problem at their present location unless they become a continue attendee in the world series game or even the playoff.

According to this article, it was going to cost $180 million to build a 50,000 stadium at that site.

nice fine.

sheesh the sox owners have screwed up b/c of their attempt to look for the better deal

U.S. Cellular field cost 168 million for a 45k seat stadium.

And required no additional infrastructure improvements. Remember, the Dan Ryan, red line, green line, and parking lots were already built.

Oh, and Jim Thompson signed a deal with Harold Washington that ensured the sox stadium stayed on 35th and shields

No. Other. Site. In. Chicago. Or. The. Burbs. Offers. The. Logistical. Advantages. That. 35th. And. The. Dan. Ryan. Offers.

Superhighway. THREE rail lines. 7 THOUSAND parking spaces.

Find me a spot that can do all that.
