Jose Abreu Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 However Abreu is 4 years older and in his prime. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NorthSideSox72 Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 I guess those Davenport projections weren't too far off after all. He good. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
pettie4sox Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Kinda apples and oranges right? Abreu played in Cuba where Thomas went through the minor league system. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rowand44 Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Hey guys do you think this is a fair comparison considering Abreu is older and played in Cuba? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
SoxAce Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Frank's OBP was just just insane during that time. Good lord. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
3GamesToLove Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Frank's OBP was just just insane during that time. Good lord. It feels like every time a Sox player who can hit a bit comes up, people try to compare him to Thomas. I remember Hawk said it about Carlos Lee and some morons on another site did it with Viciedo in 2010. You just can't. You can count the right-handed hitters in baseball history who are comparable to him on one hand. We will likely never see another hitter Sox as good as Thomas in our lifetimes. I doubt Giants fans compare every young power-hitting outfielder to Mays or Bonds. It's silly. Edited April 27, 2015 by 3GamesToLove Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bigsoxhurt35 Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 I don't like the comparisons because of age. I want to see their age comparisons stat wise. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
3GamesToLove Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) I don't like the comparisons because of age. I want to see their age comparisons stat wise. Frank's age 27 season: .308/.454/.606, 179 OPS+, 168 wRC+ Abreu's age 27 season: .317/.383/.581, 170 OPS+, 167 wRC+ That was Frank's worst wRC+ to that point, hilariously.
