Prior to tonight’s game vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox returned right-handed pitcher Javy Guerra from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte, reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list and designated him for assignment.

His arm is in a lot of trouble. He had a setback during ST and as of last week hasn't been able to throw off the mound. Basically, don't expect anything from Crain until you hear there is news on Crain.

Yeah, I was up to date as of opening day. Haven't heard a word since.

I am sure they are watching the waiver wire closely for outfield depth.

Outfield depth? I'd guess that is near last on their list of priorities.

Catching, starting pitching, skill infield are all higher right now. Maybe even relief pitching depending on who is out there. The only thing lower than outfield right now would be 1B.

Not just DFA'd, but released. He is really bad right now. Doesn't get on base, and zero power. It sounds familiar.

Two years ago, he could have been a solid platoon mate in the OF for a team, but he doesn't even hit LHP anymore

Think of it this way. If an OF goes down to injury, who is the next call up? That is why the Sox would be watching for OF depth.

SP? No. They are looking to make room for Rodon as it is. That will push someone else into relief, and they just cleared a mediocre reliever off of the roster. Next SP up would be Scott Carroll. Odds are you won't find a better reliever on waivers then what Guerra gave you, and they would add him back if needed (assuming he isn't claimed).

Skill IF? No. The next guy up is Sanchez, and it isn't even close.

Catching? Sure. The odds of finding one are really, really low, especially when the Marlins couldn't get anything at all for Salty, even when being willing to eat his entire contract.

OF is at the top of their depth list FOR SURE.

Now the trade market would be a different thing. There I am sure they would love a 3B and C.

I completely disagree. They already have a 4th OF who is about on par with other 4th OFs, and they have a guy they see as a key prospect raking in AAA in Trayce Thompson. They also have a guy with a major league track record there, Matt Tuiasosopo, who would likely be better than anything on the waiver wire. I can't see this area being a priority at all.

SP "depth" is a major problem because Noesi and Danks are terrible, Rodon is a rookie and can only take one slot anyway, and neither Beck nor Johnson look ready just yet. Skill infielder meaning 3B primarly, which Sanchez has only played sparingly, though I'd say that one is almost as low as OF. Catching is an easy #1. Relief arms are also higher.

I'll stick to my guns on this. The only thing lower is 1B.

Thompson didn't even get a September call up in a lost 2014 season. Has that much changed in a month of baseball? I doubt it. Honestly I think if an OF got hurt, you'd probably see Sanchez still get a call up, with Shuck/Bonifacio getting most of the PT in the OF. There is also a non-zero chance that Leury Garcia would get the call up as a guy who has more flexibility for the roster.

Thompson absolutely did not deserve a callup in 2014 after a full season at AA and right now he's in AAA playing like a guy who you wouldn't mind giving a callup to in a pinch. At a higher level to boot.

with the roster at 39, what i think is, if a player who is put on the waivers list is better than anything that is on the roster or in the system, and that is a need, the sox will pick him up.

I don't think position matters as much as a scouting report. There are still several things they can do to make room on the 40 if needed.

very true, but first, it is that player, that is needed to be put on the waiver. this is a nice discussion for the "what if".

but i still need to see, if that player is better than what the sox have at the present.

however, dang i really hate me for this, i always have a however. but however, catching is a huge hole in the system.
