Update on what just happened?

Gomez hit a hanger into the left field corner and went for three, Avi managed to miss both Micah and Alexei with the throw and Melky backing it up threw a strike home but the tag was just late.

Might be overreacting but I just don't see Avi as ever being a productive major league player given his absolutely horrendous defence and his offensive flaws. If we decide to sell I'm listening to anything for him.

Sox mgmt thinks he's a future star. No way will they deal him.

Stop watching and go do something else then.

nah, it's like watching a violent brutal car accident, something mildly entertaining about it that keeps you coming back

Then he shouldn't swing at that garbage

I agree, but when your the best hitter on the team you obviously feel the pressure to make things happen yourself instead of just walk and they get the next out with ease

I was one of Semien's biggest fans on this site, but it's impossible to judge the trade until after the season. First, we need to see if Shark signs an extension and for how much. If not, we need to see what we end up getting for him, whether it's prospects via trade or a comp pick. Second, it's way to early to draw any conclusions on Semien as a major leaguer, although I obviously believe in his bat.

Extension?

If he pitches like this we should not only not extend him but we won't get a draft choice for him.

If he improves, we may be able to mitigate the losses. But even in his good games this year, he's really labored.

The idea of a 73 win team to trade for a 1 year rent was nuts to begin with. (not as bad as Williams trading our top pitching prospect for 1.5 years of a pitcher with a 6+ ERA). Fortunately we didn't trade anyone with that high a ceiling.

And this one, of course, was the same demographic as we've seen over and over...some NL pitcher that the Sox get all goo-goo over.

So another "missing the cutoff man" delight?

I know it's trendy here to overreact to a bad month of performance, but short of injury there is almost no chance we won't get a comp pick for him.

Outside of Semien, we didn't give up much. And quite frankly, a comp pick could end up being a better prospect than Semien. Having said that, I still think we extend him and given our depth at 2B, I'm ok with giving up Semien if that ends up being the result.
