Jose Abreu is headed to the hospital for x-rays. Said he initially hurt his finger two weeks ago in Chicago. #WhiteSox

Hopefully he's ok, but has to be concerning it's still swollen after two weeks

Yet another reason he should DH at least until it heals. No xray machine at the trop?

They should have given him a day off after he injured it...that magic cure-all day. Just another one of the million bonehead moves Herm Shneider's done to cripple this franchise the last few decades.

LOL you can't be serious.....

It is just common sense. Don't listen to the medical people if they don't include the magic cure all day.

maybe it was all on Avi. maybe he just told them he was ok. this is where the manager should override anyone and took him out anyway.

like yesterday move on conor, RV just was aggressive.

The swelling wouldn't be the uncommon for baseball players as it continually irritated by the vibrations and movement from the bat. The issues starts if the pain hasn't decreased in this period of time. Without knowing the mechanism of injury, it's impossible to soeculate on what it is or how ling it will be. He could have torn one of the cruciate or ring ligaments and need reconstruction syrgery or he could have brusied it and need a little rest.

I'm sure you agree the White Sox don't need Abreu's bat for the next 2 weeks if this is a major problem right?

We should listen to the guy with a 5th grade education. Dr. Ozzie. Sit for omeday, problem solved. Besides, you said Abreu is a tick above average. How would that be a big loss?

I remember these soundbites:

Herm "We should play him so he gets hurt more."

Dr. Ozzie "No, he will rest for one day"

Herm "ahh, genius as always"

When you have 2 hitters in your whole lineup who are above average, losing 1 of them is a pretty big loss.

And really, you totally cover yourself in dignity with the bolded. You can't make a valid point yourself about why its a good idea to play people until injuries get worse rather than giving them enough time off to manage them...so you devolve to making personal comments.

As I stated before, I would listen to the medical staff. The people who are educated and trained for this kimd of thing. If you remember Robin's comment when Avi was initially tsken out and reentered the line up, he said it was a case where playing on it wouldn't make it worse. You can think he just made this up off the top of his head, and the training and medical staff were never consulted, and everyone is afraid of Robin in the White Sox organization so they will just do as he says, but it would be a case of you being incorrect again. He was cleared medically, he said he was good to go, he played. Even if he sat the one magical day, I am guessing with his current injury, it wouldn't have suddenly dissappeared.

And the comment about Ozzie's education is pretty accurate.

This sums it all up nicely. I don't know why people are ignoring the fact that we have a wonderful medical staff paid enormous sums of money. Avi AND the entire staff thought he could play through it so they tried. Didn't happen. Wtf is there to second guess? I mean, the staff and Avi didn't have the benefit of hindsight at the time, which makes everything easier to analyze.

isn't that a contradiction. the medical staff says yeah he ok and then he wounds up aggravating it more.

ah with that, i think i would get a second medical staff to work there.

but the other part is, it would have been great if someone in authority would have said, yeah, but i will still rest him and let the backup play some.

I don't think it's a contradiction LDF. Pretty much everybody is hurt all year and they are all playing through their aches & pains. I know us Chicago fans take knee injuries extra seriously ;) I don't think it's as big of a deal as we think with Avi. Somebody in the game thread said he's starting in RF so I imagine this might be the last we ever hear about Avi's knee, God-willing!

aches and pains are 1 thing, but when somebody has problems walking for jogging, you, as the person in charge, should play it safe. esp early in the season. a day or 2 rest and see how it responds. again esp in the early part of the season.

btw, no offense but who cares what anyone says in a game thread. i am talking about the sox, the team and the whole org.

does this mean i want the manager to play it safe on all players with all kind of aches and pains. no but using common sense is called for.

This is not necessarily the case. There are many injuries that truly are day to day. The tendonosis and other tendon irritations can't always be predicted. He injures it, there is no structural tears, so they give it a try. That is normal protocol. It didn't improve/got worse that is when you need to rest it for a bit.
