YASNY
You better face the fact that the Cubs have a very good shot at winning their division. After this series with the Expos, the Cubs play Reds, Mets & Pirates the rest of the way out. The Astros and Cardinals get to beat up on each other for 6 games. Beyond the that, houston has the Brewers, Rockies and Giants. St. Louis plays Brewers, Rockies and D'Backs. The Cubs have already put a major hurting on St. Louis and have really hust the Cards chances. But if Cards and Stros beat up on each other, with Houston having that tough series against the Giants, the Cubs should be able to coast right in. This might be a Loooooooooong off season if the Sox can't put these Twinkies down for the count.
Bmr31
The only real hope is that the expos beat the cubs ass in the next series! But YAS, how dare you look forward and analyze like that!
Al Lopez Ghost (old)
Long off-season? Try long post-season! ALtho even if they do make it, the Cubs post-season ends quickly, probably at the hands of the Braves.
The Critic
What the Cubs do doesn't bother me at all. I just ignore the Cub dolts, and I can have good baseball conversations with my intelligent Cub fan friends. Speaking of intelligent Cub fans, did you hear about the sign the Cub fans brought to last night's game rooting for the Sox to win "so they could get a rematch"? I thought that was pretty cool. Also, the Reds and Pirates historically give the Cubs a hard time, so nothing is certain.
Yossarian
The cubs are the cubs so I'm not ready to give them their props. Like the poster pointed out the Pirates and Reds have been tough on them over the years. This year however the Pirates gave the cubs half of their team. Why weren't those trades reviewed by the commissioner.? In any case, the Sox are my team but I think this time the north siders are going to be up there for quite a while. That may get me flamed, but that's the way I see it. The last all Chicago World Series was almost a century ago. Why not now? Why not us beating them again? It would be the best thing in the world for the Sox franchise.

I thought that was pretty cool. That's one of the glaring differences between Sox and Cub fans. If the Sox make the playoffs and the Cubs don't, Cubs fans will usually say that they are cheering for the Sox because they are from Chicago. On the otherhand, if the Cubs make the playoffs and the Sox don't, Sox fans wish swift and vengeful death on the Cubs in the playoffs. So it doesn't surprise me that Cubs fans would want to see the White Sox win too this year for a "rematch." I think you all know where I stand. I NEVER want to see a Sox/Cubs World Series. If I don't literally kill a Cubs fans, I'll end up in the hospital with Guiness-worthy ulcers or an insane asylum. I hate the sCrUBS that much. :fyou sCrUBS. No time like the present for a losing streak at the hands of a still contending but not likely going to make it Montreal team.

All due respect, Killa, but I really believe that there are both kinds of fans for both teams. There are Cub fans who are not haters, and there are Cub fans who get happier about a Sox loss than about a Cubs win. Same in reverse. The reason it's not equal is because GENERALLY SPEAKING, there are more Cub "fans" who go to Chewing Gum Park because their friends go there, or because it's the "cool" place to go, or whatever. There are more "serious baseball fans" who follow the Sox, again generally speaking. I personally know fans of each team who can carry on an engaging, intelligent conversation about baseball, and there are dolts who follow each team. Such is life... I don't care either way if the Cubs do well or not. I used to, but not anymore. I don't even watch them unless Prior or Zambrano are throwing. Those two guys are fun to watch, regardless of their uniform. I don't care WHO is on the other bench if the Sox get to the WS - the only reason I would prefer for the Cubs NOT to get there is so none of their fans would pollute USCF during that wonderful time!!! moochpuppy
The Cubs may be sitting pretty, but when all is said and done I hope it's the Sox that will be standing tall!!
Jordan4life_2003
The schedule makers must be diehard Cubs fans. I mean what kinda September schedule is that? Anyways. Cubs have been playing too well of late. They're bound to hit atleast 1 more slump before the year is out. And like somebody just said. If they do make it. They're out in 3 to either the Giants or Braves...

VAfan
I haven't lived in Chicagoland since the mid-1970's, and have been a die hard Sox fan since 1970. I switched from the Cubs after 1969 and never looked back. My distance from the city may be why I have never developed a loathing of the Cubs. Mostly, I could care less. It hurts some that Sosa made his career after leaving us, but I'm sure it hurts Cubs fans more all the guys who have prospered elsewhere (eg, Maddux, Palmeiro). That being said, I think it would be tremendous to have a Sox/Cubs World Series. Indeed, I think that would be the most earth shattering sports event in my lifetime, in ANY SPORT. It would dwarf all the other sports long shots of the last century. Plus, as a Sox fan, in a 7 game series, I like our chances against the Cubbies. cwsox
I think you all know where I stand. I NEVER want to see a Sox/Cubs World Series. I am with you. I do not want them to make the playoffs at all. The possibility however remote that in a Sox-Cubs world series that they could win is more than I can imagine or ever want to live with. I like us winning the world series and them never making the playoffs.
The Bones
If there is a cubs/sox world series, one thing is for sure, there would be some of the biggest sports riots in history. Remember what happened when the bulls won their championship. It would be about 2 or 3 times as bad as that. It would be ugly. That's the only reason I don't want to see a chicago series. Wise Master Buehrle
If there is a cubs/sox world series, one thing is for sure, there would be some of the biggest sports riots in history. And you do know who'd be blamed for all these sports riots? That's right, the Sox fans would be blamed. Screw that, Chicago World Series may be cool, but there are too many downsides for Sox fans. The Cubs got a Twin like schedule down the stretch, with the exception that they don't play any of the top flight divisional foes, like the Twins will have to (Thats right; Sox WILL HAVE TO PLAY GREAT BALL THE REST OF THE WAY). I'd call it a pretty good shot that the Cubs get there.
BridgeportHeather
Plus, as a Sox fan, in a 7 game series, I like our chances against the Cubbies. Definitely! For, Game Seven would be played at Comiskey, NOT the Urinal!!!
VAfan
Those of you Sox fans who fear a Sox/Cubs WS should have more faith in our team. Sure, all the press would go to the Northsiders. But ultimately the spoils of victory would go to the Sox, and I've been waiting 33 years for that. If you think the recent Cubs/Cardinals series was intense, Sox/Cubs would be off the richter scale as sports contests go. I just spent two weeks of vacation in Chicago. My first extended time back since the mid-70s. Partly because I've been feeling that this could finally be the year. If the Sox make the Series, I'm there. If the Sox and Cubs make the Series, every one-time fan will make the exodus or watch every moment on TV or radio. Sox/Cubs would put baseball on the map again. Especially if you feel beleagured or resentful as a Sox fan, what better way to shut up Cub fans for all time than to beat them in a World Series? It would not be sweet enough to beat up the Braves or the Giants. It would be 1000 times sweeter to vanquish the Cubs!! So come out of your shells and pull for a city series. Trust me, if the Sox beat the Cubs in 7 in a WS, it will be the best sports event you'll ever witness.
