I assume then he's stating that he and rick will resign at the end of the season if the players can't get it done since they did such a poor job of choosing those players right? Otherwise he's throwing others under the bus to protect himself.
chitownsportsfan
We'll see who's in charge if they win 70 games this year, that's for sure. If you look at the Bulls and how JR runs them -- you can't help but wonder if the same circus has infected the Sox' decision making. I'm curious, for those of you that also carefully follow the Bulls -- how would you describe the general sense of "order" within that FO? I'd be shocked if anyone described it as "ideal". In fact, it was recently reveilved during Thibs' hiring that Paxson and Gar wouldn't even speak to each other in the meeting and in fact seemed to be completely at odds. This is also the same Paxson that decided to punch VDN. We'll see what comes about if they fail to meet expectations and someone gets the axe. Everyone will be in CYA mode. LDF
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) October 31 2012 There is debate about how much autonomy Hahn will have going forward. He inherits the exact same substructure he was a part of as assistant GM, and Williams is still lurking down the hall. In the team's press release announcement, Reinsdorf said, "Kenny raised the idea of promoting Rick several years ago, and we all have agreed that this is the right time to increase the scope and range of Kenny's involvement while he continues to maintain oversight and final approval on major baseball decisions." On the same topic, Williams said, "The way I look at it is it's Rick's decision until it's not. And when it's not, we have to get in, we have to hammer it out. correct me if i am wrong, but didn't they also gave Hahn more room after the season last yr. i remember reading something about that in the FA signings. southsider2k5
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) What KW did when he didnt have a team president giving interviews like this. Kenny had Jerry overruling him at times, so it isn't like he had some kind of full autonomy. He also gave plenty of timely interviews on the state of the team. caulfield12
One good week in September of 2012 would have given the Sox the AL Central title and made Ventura AL Manager of the Year, he said. “People make incorrect assumptions about Robin’s will to manage, number one, and his intensity,’’ Williams said. “Those who question it, I can assure them this man wants to be in the dugout, wants to win, wants to improve and has improved. “He hasn’t gotten any dumber. He has a lot more managerial savvy in him.” Ventura has made decisions that have opened him to second-guessing, Williams said, but that isn’t unique to him. “Name your Hall of Famer in the dugout– you’re going to second guess that guy,’’ Williams said. And this is supposed to inspire the fans, how exactly? Maybe we should go back to that alternate reality where there's an attendance trophy and the White Sox won the World Series or at least made it to the playoffs in 1994, 2003, 2006, 2008 (Quentin didn't get hurt, he wins MVP, Javy's not "mentally weak" and we beat TB), 2010 and 2012. There. I feel much better now. (Although I would have felt a lot better had he listed some areas where the coaching staff had actually improved or adapted/evolved from 2012 to 2015). Thad Bosley
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Because the White Sox could care less what Soxtalk.com thinks, and rightfully so. Anyone who would run their franchise simply off of fan sentiment would be out of a job in a heartbeat. Lol - oh, I don't know. Maybe it's time for the roll of the dice and start running this thing based on Soxtalk poster intelligence. I'd switch out this perennially, non-achieving triumvirate of Jerry, Kenny and Rick with "iamshack", "eminor3rd", and "balta1701" and take my chances with them in a heartbeat. You have to admit - the results couldn't be much worse!
