Kyyle23
Jennings actually seemed ok until he started getting blowout mop up innings. Then he just imploded. IIRC early in the season he came in to a few tough situations and did well, and then had to eat up some innings after Shark or someone else got lit up, and hasnt been the same since
CWSpalehoseCWS
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Realistically, Dan Jennings has to be starting to feel the heat. He knows that Albers is still out there healing, and needs a roster spot. There are also Crain and Jones out there in limbo somewhere who both could also be back. Out of curiosity, does Jennings have options left? I do not believe so. However, him being terrible right now might actually help the Sox slide him through waivers if they feel he is worth trying to sort out at Charlotte. BlackSox13
Yanks are in need of a right handed pitcher and the Yanks have lefties. “I do need to find a right-handed arm for the bullpen here at some point,” said Cashman. “We have [Andrew] Miller, [Dellin] Betances, [Justin] Wilson, [Chasen] Shreve, [Jacob] Lindgren and [Chris] Capuano, and Esmil Rogers is the long man. So really, outside of Betances, there’s only one right-handed arm out there, but he’s the long man. I’ve got a number of lefties out there in Wilson, Shreve and Lindgren that all can get righties out, and at least that’s the benefit of those guys. It’s not as much of a pressing issue, but I certainly would love to get an arm that I think Carpenter is, but just not here in New York. I think Carpenter will be that for somebody else.” http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/06/cash...-relievers.html
caulfield12
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) .238/.304/.490 .235/.278/.504 yea, massive difference there. Those two more walks make all the difference in the world You're not consdering the most important factor...their respective contracts. Rasmus has a 793 ops. We would have been elated to get that from Viciedo last year. Cabrera is one of the bottom five players in all of mlb at 540. 28 vs. over the hill/declining/no pop 30ish. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/pos.../true/minpa/125 Rasmus comes in at 17/29...only Suzuki, Ackley and Joyce are worse than Melky. Probably David DeJesus is the best "treading water" signing. The best thing you can say is we didnt sign Hanley Ramirez for lf, but the White Sox would have played him at third. It's easy to say signing Nelson Cruz would have been better...but not if you consider how likely he is to replicate those same numbers in 2018 or 2019. Balta1701
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) ROI is always implied in any conversation. It's easy to say signing Nelson Cruz would have been better...but not if you consider how likely he is to replicate those same numbers in 2018 or 2019. The problem is...when you play the FA market...you have to ask first and foremost "is this worth it in the upcoming season". The following years aren't the priority. If you miss the playoffs in year 1 after big FA spending then your FA spending has been ineffective and become a gamble unless it's a 7-8 year deal, when you think about the first 2-3 years. Years 4-7 are the years you use to spread out the contract because those are gamble years. Maybe they contribute a bit, maybe they don't. If you win the WS year 1, or at least they lead you to the playoffs, who cares? If you miss the playofs year 1, then suddenly you care about those years because you did something wrong.
