Balta1701
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) I really hope Shark dominates tonight. For our sake and if they're going to move him. If they're going to move him it would probably be best for the White Sox to lose 1-0 on an unearned run tonight. If they're not going to move him, f*** it, keep scoring. If they're not going to move him, f*** it, keep scoring. Yup. Hope they keep it up. On a nice little run. Miley gives up a lot of BBs, so I hope our guys like Melky and Abreu tee off. Dick Allen
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) I can only imagine the overreaction in this thread tonight if Samardzija gets torched and the Sox lose. The ironic thing is, for Samardjiza's value, you need him to pitch well. If he pitches well, that lessens the odds he's dealt. I hope the Sox win 12-0. The draft pick is always a fall back option. It will be interesting to see if he isn't traded, if some of the proposals are ever leaked. I think if they were for future HOFers, he would have been traded by now even if they don't want to wave a white flag.

I think if they could have gotten MLB-ready offensive prospects for him, he would have been gone. As we talked about after the Kazmir deal, most of the better hitters traded at this time aren't close to being ready in a year, which wouldn't fit Hahn's plan. Flash Tizzle
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) I can only imagine the overreaction in this thread tonight if Samardzija gets torched and the Sox lose. I'll be one of those overreacting. We should have moved him by now, anyway. If say he does poorly and the Sox lose, whatever package is received for him afterward we will question whether or not it was the same as few days prior. I just feel we have very little to gain and a whole lot of leverage to lose tonight.
Chisoxfn
I really don't think one bad trade is going to have that much impact on his price. I also felt the same way about Hamels. No way is a team going to go, "oh, he just threw a no-hitter", I better give up an extra prospect. People know what they have on Shark and Hamels, by and large. If a guy had 5 bad starts in a row, certainly it would impact his value, just as much as if he had 5 good starts in a row, at least that is a bit of a sample size. I think if Shark goes out and has a rough game, it doesn't change what he's done over past 7 or 8 starts. People have scouted these guys and reached a decision based upon that. Only wildcard really is injuries. Now if he goes out and throws a complete game shutout, it definitely doesn't hurt, but end of the day, I don't know if teams really give up more based upon the final start a guy makes prior to the deadline (unless like I said mechanically or health wise you are seeing issues). EvilJester99
Love watching winning baseball but this recent run has really hurt the Sox. Giving false hope and now deciding to hold on for deals. Sox team has far too many holes to fill to stand pat. Not a good choice.

Giving false hope and now deciding to hold on for deals. Sox team has far too many holes to fill to stand pat. Not a good choice. IMO it's not that bad. The return for Shark to begin with won't be breathtaking. But, with that said, KW and Hahn need to add an impact bat.

I would hypothesize that Shark's value is actually higher today then it was a week ago. The Sox actually have more leverage and other pitchers have moved (and / or never ended up entering the market). Bottom line, I don't know if the Sox really are going to move him, but I think if we moved him today, we'd get more then we would have a week ago. I don't know if I would have predicted that a week ago, but it at least looks that way. And I suppose it could change again in a day. How many pitchers remain on the market that are better than him and/or are not rentals? I don't think his value is any less than it was a week ago, just not sure that it will be that high for a 12 start rental.
spiderman
If the White Sox are uncertain of their direction, and that usually leads into a conversation about trading Jeff S, but what would they be looking for if they decide to make a run at a wildcard? Does playing for a 1 game playoff temper the aggressiveness?
BlackSox13
I'm at peace with the Sox standing Pat since the rotation is playoff worthy and some bats have come alive. For right now, what might be the best moves the Sox could make are... 1- DFA Boni and recall Micah 2- bat Micah at DH and use LaRoche for pinch hitting/ defensive sub at 1B. 3- play Shuck more in a platoon with Avi. Shuck improves defense and production against RHP. 4- option Jennings back to Charlotte and recall Erik Johnson 5- Danks goes to the pen and Erik becomes the 5th starter These move cost the Sox zero money and prospects while improving their contending status, on paper anyway. Edit: subbed Jennings for Leury Edited July 28, 2015 by BlackSox13

lasttriptotulsa
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) What are going to do when Rodon hits his innings? He's on pace for around 160 innings. That should be about right where they want him. It shouldn't become an issue as they've done a decent job managing his innings so far.
