Miguel Tejada - SS - Oakland Athletics Sep 9

Miguel Tejada expressed interest in joining the Angels as a free agent after this season.

''I'll be listening,'' Tejada said. ''The Angels and me, we'll talk.'' Working in Anaheim’s favor is that Tejada’s boyhood hero and fellow Dominican Alfredo Griffin is a coach with the Angels. The team is determined to add a big bat to the middle infield, and will make strong runs at Tejada and/or Japan’s Kazuo Matsui. The Orioles, Cubs, White Sox, Mariners, and Dodgers are also expected to be in the running for Tejada.

I think the Sox could make a little push; but I'd rather spend the money on a guy like Colon or sign Maggs long term after next year. I think Jose would be just fine again especially with his defense improving.

I think the Sox have enough hitting to allow the platoon of Jose/Graffy to continue. I'd rather spend the money on pitching and/or a real CF next year.

If the Sox don't get Jose's contract I got a feeling we'll see them make a serious push at someone.

Everett won't be back (Not that we were paying him much) and Alomar will likely stay. If the Sox don't keep Alomar then they could add Tejada and go with a younger player at 2nd (I'd guess it would be Wee Willie).

Right now I have great faith that the Sox will make hte playoffs. I am confident in this team and I'm confident that most of hte players will be back and the Sox will do even more this offseason to make the team better.

I'd probably take the cheaper of Matsui/Tejada. Both would be very valuable depending on their price, considering the hole they'd fill.

I'm not sure if I'm right on this one but from his numbers this year I'd say Tejada is another guy that tends to swing for the fences. I think we'd be better off putting a lot of money on a player that hits for average and contact. Not sure who would be available after this year that would fit that bill though.

I've seen prior discussions of going after the Japanese guy, but that would probably involve giving the Japanese team millions of dollars before getting the player's name on a contract. I doubt that our pockets are that deep.

He is going to be a free agent so no team will have to purchase rights to negotiate with him like the mariners had to do with Ichiro.

Jose Valentin should be the White Sox shortstop for next year. He is a team player and works hard on improving himself. He also is a great person to have in the dug out. Have you ever noticed the games where he is sitting and Graffy in the lineup? Jose is always on the front steps of the dugout cheering people on. We need him on the team. Hitting 20 plus homers a year ain't bad either. Alomar improves his defense. I say we sign Alomar, Colon, Jose, Everett and the others.

Bringing Jose back as a platoon guy is a must. I just don't think starting him is necessarily the best thing, but he may be doing that if his option vests.

I have no problem with Jose as his defense has greatly improved, but he isn't very good at the plate although he is a good guy.

I think the Sox plan on using Rowand/Reed/Borchard in center next year so I doubt Everett would be back, unless Thomas signs a multi year deal somewhere else.

As long as we don't have to put his first name on the back of his jersey. Jesus Christ, thats about the dumbest thing I've seen in a while.

I think we have a good shot at either Tejada or Matsui. The Angels can't sign both of them. I think the Sox should make a push for one of the two. Tejada is a special player, I don't know a thing about Matsui. The Sox starting pitching has two questions: Colon and the fifth starter. I would rather spend less money on a work-horse like Livan Hernandez or Sidney Ponson. Obviously we need help in the bullpen; you can get quality players hopefully decently priced. Everett is gone, we have to decided between him and Carlos in LF.

We could also work some trades in the offseason. Why not go out and get a pitcher who had a decent year and make him our number four starter. I am fine with seeing Garland as our third starter. I think it's about time.

Japanese names are different than North American names and I think that's why basically lots of Japanese players of many sports are like that.

Average wise Jose has slipped and I am not sure why that is, but power wise plus defense wise he has made strides. Righty - lefty platoon maybe, by it is either Graffy or Miles with Jose. What do you think?.

If it came down to Eckstein vs. Jose, I'll take Valentin anyday of the week. I hate to harp so much on leadership, but everyone on this team knows that Jose is one of the motivators on and off the field. His errors are down...so is his average, but he still is semi-clutch.
