You'd have to have Jimmy "The Mouth of the South" Hart as your bench coach, Paul Bearer as first base coach, Lou Albano at third, and Jim Cornette as the hitting coach.

Haha this is awesome! Love me some wrestling referencing.

This is said for one reason, and one reason only. The fans on TV don't see someone screaming at someone else. This era of sports is pretty well gone. This stuff is done behind close doors now so that the meatball fans don't make it into some huge deal when it happens.

Lax attitude doesn't have to be about "yelling".... There are about 100 other verbal and non verbal signals involved.

How do you know there is a lack of urgency? Did you read it on a message board? The fact is, your favorite team and model organization hasn't been all that great the last couple of months. I guess their leadership or coaching or something must be lacking. The leadership crap is just like the chemistry argument. Konerko was a great leader in 2005. When the team is bad in 2013, where is the leadership. You can have great leaders, that doesn't mean you will win more games than you lose. Have you ever even played a baseball game or any game for that matter? Does the team with the best coach usually win? Or is it the team with the best leaders? Or is it the team with the best players? Or is it the team with the best performers? I'll go with the last one.

Agreed

Except that it still happens nearly every week in baseball, most recently with Giles in Philly jawing with McClure (pitching coach) and Ryne Sandberg in the dugout.

It's unfortunate that we think in the simplest terms, though. Easy going and well-liked player's coach or "R. Lee Ermey strict militaristic disciplinarian" who is always shouting and yelling and intimidating everyone.

I guess that comes from the idea that as a leader, you often have to choose between being loved and feared. It's extremely difficult to fall into both categories.

I would love to hear you document some specifics, both in cues and in specific happenings.

player makes a bad play he runs back to the dugout with his head down... Ventura has his head down as he runs by.

Players strikes out 3 times or more in a row has no emotional reaction of any kind.

Team throws the ball around allowing unearned runs to score... no one says anything to each other ... just a bunch of blank stares from players and coaches.

I'm not going to document S*** though since that's a lot of work.

But some of you are making laugh.

It's like no one in the world's fault... its just the ebb and flow of the universe.

It's the at-bats. Every AB is terrible and looks like a softball game. Our team has no "game" at the plate, just thoughtless swings IMO. No grinding down pitchers, no short swings the other way, no trying to aim the ball, not seeing pitches the first time through. Our SP is losing the pitch count battle every inning of every game. Even most Sale games. We see fewer pitches. Why do our players just mindlessly hack? Why can't they play the game? I dunno whose fault that is to be honest. Maybe USCF is the culprit?

Another one of his (Pat Murphy's) favorite lines is: "I'm like an offensive lineman. My job is to open holes for these guys so they can run through them to the big leagues. It's my job to help them be their best self."

This is a guy who has experienced almost everything there is to experience in baseball. He will engage his players with doses of both humor and anger. The Padres will always know where they stand with him. And these are the most important things a manager can bring to the table in 2015.

At a time when front offices can offer managers mountains of data on everything from lineups to defensive alignments to pitching matchups, one thing will never change: The manager's responsibility is to get a professional effort from his team every single day of the season. He must make players understand that everything he does is what he believes is the best thing for the team. Players must be convinced that if something is right for the team, it's also right for them.

You have seen those things occur just as I have... but if you want specifics I'll have to go check my film vault.

It's the curse of any team with a "process" going against the White Sox.

The Royals, the Cubs, the Astros...and the Twins with Terry Ryan once again are putting together one of the most impressive collections of young talent in the game.

When the Tigers can outspend you by 25-30%, the Twins have you beat on the development front, the Royals with their bullpen/speed/defense combination...you better damn well find a competitive niche somewhere. Heck, the Indians even have their thing, which is their starting rotation depth.

For the White Sox, it has been Cubans, Don Cooper, our training/conditioning staff limiting DL time and our propensity to find pots of gold under the rainbows of Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon and now Fulmer (pitchers with questionable mechanics).

When they regressed, they fired some people. Not the Sox. How many Josh Fields does it take for people to lose their jobs?
