Gammons on White Sox Bullpen

Here's what Gammons thought about our bullpen, sorry if this has been posted already.

"Meanwhile, one AL scout adds, "getting Scott Sullivan in front of Damaso Marte -- the most underrated reliever in the American League -- and Tom Gordon gives the White Sox potentially the best bullpen of any American league playoff team, if they make it in." GM Ken Williams got Marte in April, 2002 for Matt Guerrier. Then since the end of last season added Colon, Esteban Loaiza, Gordon, Sullivan and Scott Schoeneweis, a pitching staff that could win everything."

Also hae had some potentially bad news for Twinkie fans if they do not make the postseason

"If the Twins do not finish first, considering their attendance is down and their payroll for next season is already at $50 million (presuming they offer arbitration to A.J. Pierzynski, Doug Mientkiewicz, Luis Rivas, Johan Santana and J.C. Romero), there are those in the area who worry that ownership will demand they slash back to the $40-million level."

Let's hope we drive another nail into their coffin tonight.

Gammons is all over the park.

which teams doesn't Gammons like?

as for the Twins, Jones, A.J. and Guzman could all be overboard.

They have to make room for Mauer at catcher, considering he is from St. Paul and they drafted him over Mark Prior (real smart).

Jones is gonna score a big hit in arbitration -- and they have already decided that Hunter is going to be their big-money outfielder.

And I think they're tired of waiting on Guzman to become an upper tier shortstop.

Just a hunch.

if the Twinkies non-tender Jones, the way they did Ortiz, I'd vote for the Sox picking him up.

decent outfielder who can play multiple positions.

can hit in several spots in the order

and he can run.

Twins would be foolish to just let him go -- but they were foolish to treat Ortiz that way.

As long as he straightens out his hat for f-sakes!

Ortiz is a much different player than Jones. I would take either of the guys, don't get me wrong, but I would much rather have Jones. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could see him in centerfield. What about Shannon Stewart? Is he not a FA after this season too. How about him in black pinstripes after this season?

I believe Stewart is free agent

that's why Toronto dumped him for Kielty

problem with him is he is injury prone and really doesn't have the arm to play center field

Jones i believe is only an arbitration guy. Only way he gets loose is if the Twinkies don't offer him a deal, similar to their handling of Ortiz.

Yes, Jones can play center. How well, I dunno

I whould LOVE Jones, he is the only Twin I like.

He's one of those guys I've raved about for a few years on the Twins. Him or Hunter would be two guys I'd take in my outfield any day of the week. Both are unbelievable defensive centerfielders and Jones is a pretty damn good offensive player while Hunter can be at times and has all the potential in the world.

If Guzman is out there, look for the Sox to pick him up. Just a guess but he'd be a guy they could bring in without much pressure and mix him in with Jose and groom him.

Guzman is amazingly fast and is good defensively and would be a nice 9 hole hitter, imo.

It whould be alot harder for me to root for Guzman than Jones, but i think he whould defenitly fit in the 2 or 6 hole. Right?

Jones would be a perfect 2 hole guy behind Alomar. But your right you could also insert him in the 6 hole or even the 5 hole. He's a good offensive player. The only reason he doesn't play center is that Torri Hunter is there.

Your right with Jones, but i was talking bout Guzman, where you stick him in the lineup?

Back of the order. He isn't an offensive force right now. Teach him and get him to grow and he could turn into a leadoff hitter. Otherwise, if he improves enough you could definately stick him in the two hole. I'd stick him in the back though at least in the beginning.

You get Jones and Guzman and you'd be taking something away from the Twins and adding to the Sox. Jones is a better all around player than Carl Everett and Guzman along with Jose is a nice thing to have at short.

Jones was the Twins CF until Torii came along. Let me put it this way, he is way better defensively than anyone we have now!

Jones I could handle and would like having on the team. Great attitude, great defense, great speed, good from the left side....only negative I can think of off the top of my head is that he is, essentially, Jose Valentin at the plate with a better average. You throw 3 consecutive good breaking balls at him, low, and you will strike him out a lot of the time.

He's still good though.

Sounds good.

I bet he still thinks the Red Sox are gonna win it all though.

Are Selig and Sosa gonna kiss in your sig?

You've never seen Playmakers on ESPN, have you?

I never watch the show, I don't need some sports soap opera when I could be watching something on actual sports, but I'm guessing that's a reference to drug-testing. and to that I say

I've been watching Playmakers but Shamee and Selig in a big wet sloppy kiss is far more amusing :D
