The Ginger Kid
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) Look, I'm as frustrated as anyone with this team. But Rick Hahn did a tremendous job over the offseason of putting this roster together. Yes, he should be taking more action now, and I think we'll see some very soon, but coming into the year, I was pleased with his work. Before the season, the general concerns on this site were -Catcher -Second base -Back of rotation -Bullpen We were right, as these positions have not performed well for us. However, how could you fault Rick Hahn for the performance of proven veterans? Melky's .240 batting average could not have been predicted, given that he has excelled in recent seasons, even post-steroids. Samardzija is coming off a ~3.00 ERA season, Eaton is supposed to be a .300 hitter, Alexei has never hit this poorly in a season, etc. My point is, it seems as if almost everything has gone wrong this year, but it's not Hahn's fault, because our players are severely underperforming. That is out of his control. I can and do blame Rick Hahn. That comes with the job. He took a swing and he whiffed. And it's not like Hahn hasn't had a hand and voice in the management of this team for the last several years. I think the Sox could really benefit from having a team president not named Kenny Williams. Edited June 20, 2015 by The Ginger Kid
Jose Abreu
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) The OP is a joke. Three and a half years on the job and the org talent is as bad if not worse than when he took over. Really? My post was a joke, but you're arguing that adding Rodon, Fulmer, Adams, Anderson, Montas, Garcia, Abreu, Eaton, etc. made our talent worse? WBWSF
Hahn has to take some of the blame for this. I have no doubt in my mind that Ramirez, Gillespie, Sanchez, Flowers, Soto and Danks will no longer be in MLB in 2016. These players have been put into the lineup day after day with little success. It will be interesting to see the 2016 White Sox Opening Day roster. Hahn will definitely have his work cut out for him in the coming months. Hatchetman
he took over a team that won 85 games. This team will win 70 games. You tell me.
Butter Parque
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) Really? My post was a joke, but you're arguing that adding Rodon, Fulmer, Adams, Anderson, Montas, Garcia, Abreu, Eaton, etc. made our talent worse? Rodon is a top 5 pick as a result of a bad team that Hahn put together Fulmer is a top 10 pick as a result of a bad team that hahn put together. Also note that he hasn't thrown one pitch of professional ball yet. Adams might be a good pick and he might not be. He's holding his own in Low A. No reason to get excited for another couple of years. Anderson isnt exactly lighting the world on fire in AA Garcia has been good overall. Considering they only gave up Peavy, the trade is a win. How much of a win we don't know. I will say that While Garcia is better than what we have, he's also a guy with a .733 OPS and a 104 WRC+. he's been good, but lets not go overboard. Couple that with defensive play and it is what it is... Acquiring Montas was a good move, but this season his K's are down and his walks are slightly up. he has talent, but he has more seasoning left. Abreu was a good signing.Better than anything they had. I hope being in the organization doesn't hamper his ability. I'm not going to brag about Eaton. He hasn't been good this season and he has an attitude problem. That trade is 50/50 right now. I hope Eaton will be the leadoff man for this team for years to come, but he has an 84 WRC+, his walks are down, his K's are up, he can't steal bases,. and his defense isn't that good. By this organizations standards, he's an improvement, but thats not saying much.
flavum
I have to give credit to Hahn for being accountable and not hiding from the media. He's good at articulating his decision making process, even if it doesn't work out. To be honest, I think most fans were correct to think this team would contend deep into September. It didn't work out. If Kenny and Buddy leave, I'm still on Hahn's side to preside over a real rebuild.
harkness99
Hahn made good moves... Most of it is on the players they have performed horribly. But when the VAST MAJORITY or your players absolutely play well beneath there capability. How can you know look at the coaching staff? It's all just bad luck? TaylorStSox
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) no, but with Rodon, it was still done by him, whether its was a no brainer or not. Abreu was always KW's guy. The off season moves were all dumb and shortsighted. They committed way too much money for a closer on a bad team. They traded Semien for a rental. Cabrera sucks. The Laroche signing was solid. Even if those moves all worked, I've never seen a worse fielding MLB team assembled. We're atrocious defensively on paper and worse on the field
TaylorStSox
In not excusing KW either. I'd fire his ass too. Even if those moves all worked, I've never seen a worse fielding MLB team assembled. We're atrocious defensively on paper and worse on the field no and this is going to be technically kind of answer. JR told KW to go and scout him. KW called JR and raved. JR then went and beat all other offers to sign him. so technically it was JR who negotiated and signed him and as a default signed under Hahn's watch. Lillian
Just to offer a little different perspective: Over the last dozen games, which include the miserable 8 game losing streak, the pitching staff has allowed just 3 or fewer runs in 9 of them, and 2 or fewer in 6 of them. That should have been good enough to produce a winning record, over that 12 game stretch. We all know that PITCHING is the name of the game. This team has pitching, and potentially even better pitching. The problem is that this offense is just not very good. Add a couple of better bats, and get a few guys back on track, and this team could be serious contenders, although it's too late for this season. However, going into next season, that should be the goal. Now, how you accomplish that, I have no idea. Nevertheless, the point is that it's not a team that needs to be "blown up". He was highly sought by other teams and JR paid him better than most asst. GMs. His strength is contracts. As much as people can dislike JR the team doesn't get burdened with Puljols, Mauer type contracts.
