flavum
I'll update it if the Padres come back and win, but this is what we're looking at for the 8th pick with a week left: 8. Tigers 72-83 9. White Sox 73-83 0.5 10. Padres 73-83 0.5 11. Mariners 74-82 1.5 12. Diamondbacks 75-81 2.5 13. Rays 75-81 2.5 14. Red Sox 75-80 3.0 15. Orioles 76-79 4.0 Red Sox swept the Orioles this weekend without the O's scoring a run.
flavum
Side note...Royals and Blue Jays are tied for HFA. Royals have four meaningful games this week in Chicago. (Tied in record. Blue Jays won season series 4-3) Edited September 27, 2015 by flavum
flavum
8. White Sox 73-83 9. Padres 73-83 10. Tigers 73-83 11. Mariners 74-83 Hopefully the Tigers don't end the season a half game worse than the Sox since they're playing 161. OmarComing25
Damn we really need to go maximum 3-6. The last series of the season is going to decide it between us and the Tigers.
flavum
3-3 with a loss to the Tigers probably keeps them at 10. 4-2 will probably mess things up. Hopefully the Royals just win three games, and that should wrap things up before they even play the Tigers.

Playing for that 8th pick I guess haha I hope the Sox are 1.5 games up over the Tigers in the reverse standings so if we win 2/3, we still finish ahead. flavum
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 07:58 AM) Playing for that 8th pick I guess haha I hope the Sox are 1.5 games up over the Tigers in the reverse standings so if we win 2/3, we still finish ahead. At this point, I'm just hoping they stay behind the Mariners. They're trying to spoil the Astros again tonight, and then host the A's this weekend. Hopefully they'll try to win at home facing a crap team. The same could be said of the Sox, but just lose a couple games this week and get the 10th pick. bmags
11th pick is just a worse case scenario for me.
OmarComing25
I know at this point the difference between pick 8 and pick 9 (or 11 and 12) is essentially meaningless, but then I go back to the last couple drafts and if we were just one spot higher in both we miss out on both guys we wanted. LDF
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) I know at this point the difference between pick 8 and pick 9 (or 11 and 12) is essentially meaningless, but then I go back to the last couple drafts and if we were just one spot higher in both we miss out on both guys we wanted. for me, i think drafting #8 and #11 is being in the top 10 protected list. i just don't want to give a natural excuse to the owners for not signing anyone in the FA list. now draft #8 and #11 is drafting a player who i hope will be there. i have 2 players for now, that i love to see the sox draft in the top 15. but like anything else, it is a long way from draft day. BamaDoc
I think if we go 1-2 in the last three, we will have a protected pick. Not sure any such player would be good value for the money. I think when I was a kid it was Richard Dotson who said we were three players away. The Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Were Sox going to take Benitendi if Bosox passed on him? 2014? We got our guy in Rodon. 2013? I can't remember who we wanted.
flavum
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 07:42 AM) 8. Padres 73-84 9. Tigers 73-84 10. White Sox 74-83 11. Mariners 75-83 Same order. All four lost last night. 8. Padres 73-85 9. Tigers 73-85 10. White Sox 74-84 11. Mariners 75-84 Tigers and Mariners off today. Final weekend: Sox host Tigers. Padres at Dodgers; A's at Mariners. Sox hold tie breaker advantage with the Mariners, so 2-2 the final four should keep them safe for the 10th pick.

Correct, but the Tigers are playing 161 so that won't be happening with them. Sox need to lose tonight and then lose 2 of 3 this weekend to pass the Tigers...or get swept this weekend. He is saying if WE were one slot lower the team that would have been in front of us would have picked Rodon and Fulmer respectively.
