Panerista
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) certain people wonder what he has done to deserve the extension Not so much that. They have basically signed Stan Bowman to the time where it will be up to him to rebuild this when all his players are past his prime. Seems only appropriate he ride this out. SoxAce
Mark Lazerus @MarkLazerus Kris Versteeg casually mentions the #Blackhawks have "five" future Hall of Famers. He adds Seabrook to Hossa, Keith, Toews and Kane. Nice praise for Seabrook from Steeger.

SoxAce
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) In 2023, I'm guessing at least two of Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook will be on LTIR. The recapture on those guys is awful. Keith? Dude is a fitness freak of nature and has arguably the best contract in the NHL. I can see him playing at an elite level well into his contract. Not saying he'll be winning a Norris when he's 40 like Lidström, but he'll still be very good.
Harry Chappas
Players age much more gracefully in hockey as compared to any other sport and the physicality of hockey seems to have gone down over time.

Panerista
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) The Seabrook deal I can understand Hawk fans getting semi-upset about, but while the Hawks were trying to circumvent the cap system, I give credit to a front office for trying to get creative. Once the NHL changed the rule, AFTER the Keith and Hossa contracts have been signed, changed things. Those deals, certainly the length, would not have been signed if the rule had already been changed. For sure. But the Flyers have figured out the workaround, which is to basically have a player go on IR and never be in playing shape, but keep them "active". Panerista
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 07:13 PM) The Flyers "figured out " how to give Chris Pronger life changing concussions and permanent vision impairment. And yet he's not retired. How could that be? In any other sport or situation, Pronger would be retired. Everyone in hockey knows exactly what is happening. Multiple teams hide players on LTIR. It's the only way GMs can avoid the huge frontloading penalties. LTIR Frauds Players in this situation are Chris Pronger of the Philadelphia Flyers, Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins and Mattias Ohlund of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Pronger has not played an NHL game since 2011. He is a candidate for the job working in the NHL's department of player safety. Clearly this is an admission that he isn't an active player despite his being characterized as such. Savard has not played since 2011 either. He scouts for the Ottawa 67s of the OHL. That clearly isn't an activity consistent with being an active player. Ohlund hasn't played a game since 2011 either. None of them should count as active players but they do. They only count as active players to skirt salary cap rules. Edited January 27, 2016 by AustinIllini

It's the only way GMs can avoid the huge frontloading penalties. LTIR Frauds I get your point but I'm just saying that Pronger and Savard suffered serious head injuries, so the team isn't hiding a player who is fully capable of playing. You can't just make that up out of thin air with Hossa. Now I'll give you the Ohlund situation, that seems fishy and what the Hawks would need to do.
