2015-16 NHL thread

You seem to be bringing up the point that we have to protect all or nothing. Marking perfect the enemy of better. Change always happens in incremental measures. Hopefully the goal is a no one person's identity isn't used as a slur. If the next area for protection is the LGBT community, well we have to continue somewhere. I believe we started with n*****, which would also get a serious ban.

I know this is what you are supposed to do on a message board, but the whole argument is stupid. No one should be diminishing what Saad is just because he's gone. He was a big loss, no matter who replaced him. However, in a case like Saad, you can't even really blame the Hawks. That whole situation was a mess, and I believe if he had any other agent, he'd still be a Hawk.

I'm not diminishing Saad, he's awesome. But that wasn't be point. The point was Panarin has more than "an argument" at being more valuable moving forward. Because he does. 77 points as a 23-24 year old rookie is crazy good.

But mental handicaps are not?

By the way, I'm not referring to any particular players or instances of the R-word being used, just kind of curious as to what groups the NHL might decide to stand up for, and what other groups they choose to ignore the slurs for.

Just don't get caught on TV screaming any of those words. I believe they are all off limits. It's too bad that's going to be Shaws last game in a Hawks uni and that was his farewell

Shaw is just one of those annoying ass hockey players who lived a very sheltered life of going to the rink and acting like an idiot his whole life. I won't miss him.

I think the fine, suspension and sensitivity training are all fair and just punishments. Shaw acted like an idiot and lost his composure. To me, what he said is really bad if it was directed at someone who is gay or is thought to be gay. I suspect, though, that it's his ignorant way of emasculating someone. Also bad, but different.

Growing up, f** was something kids called each other as a put down. Same as retard. It's not acceptable now, nor should it be. I hope Shaw understands that the player or ref he was yelling at probably doesn't care about what he was yelling (assuming he is not gay). But, a kid at home watching who is gay might be hugely impacted by what he or she was seeing.

Back to hockey, I hope the rest of the Hawks can raise their level of effort to that which Shaw brings every time he's on the ice. He never seems to take a shift off.

I'm sure the R word is not okay, but it's also not the focus of a Blackhawks/NHL partnership.

When Bowman gave up Dano and Danault at the deadline, getting Ladd was great but I would have preferred a defensive upgrade rather than the two depth forwards they ended up with.

I felt the same way. But it is what it is. The series isn't over yet.

They have, and we all hope they do. It just hasn't felt like the same type of team for a while.

I can't look past the 1-15-5 record (or something similar) against the Western Conference playoff teams since early February. But hey, if anyone is gonna choke away a series, it would be St. Louis. Get the W tonight, take care of business at home, then it's a coin flip game 7.

Pavel Datsyuk appears to have played his last game in hockey. Excellent career.

His last game in the NHL. It sounds like he will still play in the KHL next year, just wants to be in Russia full-time.

But yeah, excellent career.

I had bedtime duty at 8:45 so I tried to pull the DVR and watch on delay move, but I didn't have it in me and just fast forwarded through the period. Looks like I made a smart decision, I didn't miss much.

36 hits or whatever. That's a lot of hitting and a genuinely uninspired effort so far.

Not many places in the world worse than Detroit, but Russia is one. I'd stay, but I guess if his entire family is there, god bless him.
