Special K
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) His defensive numbers are in the bottom 1/3 of the league, comparable to Jhonny Peralta and Jimmy Rollins. Replacing his defense and in fact upgrading his defense might not be all that hard, we could probably do that from our system right now. Those guys wouldn't hit, but neither is he. And also, what would be the point of holding on to him (again, assuming the unlikelihood scenario that we could find something of value to trade for him)? The Sox are not going anywhere this year, and his skills are only declining with age. He seems like a great clubhouse guy, and was very good for the Sox for several years, but we should definitely trade him if we could ever get something for him. Sure feels to me to be more a part of the problem than anything else...get the "sloppy and unfocused" feeling from him a lot.

Bob Sacamano
Personally, I think he is stuck here rest of the year. Option will be bought out and he will re-sign on a one year cheap deal to be a stopgap.

Vance Law
Have there been any reports on what the hell is exactly wrong with Alexei? He looks like he's gone off his meds or something. Just playing badly and that has snowballed and messed him up mentally?
Balta1701
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) Have there been any reports on what the hell is exactly wrong with Alexei? He looks like he's gone off his meds or something. Just playing badly and that has snowballed and messed him up mentally? Since he's this terrible at the plate I'm just guessing he finally is slow enough that he can't catch up with pitches or with balls he used to in the field, is overcompensating, frustrated, and then gets distracted. chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) Since he's this terrible at the plate I'm just guessing he finally is slow enough that he can't catch up with pitches or with balls he used to in the field, is overcompensating, frustrated, and then gets distracted. He's old and has a ton of miles on his legs. He's always been a guy teetering on the edge of a cliff IMO and well, he's gone over. He does not have "old man skills" at all. He doesn't command the strike zone and he's hugely reliant on his athletscism at SS for his value. Rabbit is right when he says hindsight is 20/20 but you really didn't need a fortune teller to see this one coming. That said, the sox f***ed themselves when they decided to try and contend this year, then they had to keep him.

harkness99
interesting thing about all of this.. Nothing in that article quotes anyone from the whitesox organization saying anything about trading alexei... Though the title says "white sox willing to part ways with Ramirez," and then absolutely nothing to back that up is said in the article. Replacing his defense and in fact upgrading his defense might not be all that hard, we could probably do that from our system right now. Those guys wouldn't hit, but neither is he. I think you vastly underrate the leap from minors to majors, especially in terms of defense. None of Saladino, LGarcia or Anderson will be able to do what Alexei does in the field right now. I'm quite confident of that. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Just let Sanchez play SS and see if his range and quick release can make him good there. Sanchez has the hands and range, but his arm is fringy. I don't know that he has the arm for MLB shortstop, except as an occasional backup. chitownsportsfan
I agree his arm is fringey at SS but I'm wondering is his routes and quick release will compensate enough. And, if he continues to mature into his body his arm should get a little stronger. I really just want to see if they can use Sanchez as the bridge in '16 at SS to Anderson. Just to stress again...Sanchez in '16 at short and Anderson in '17 at short both translate to "2016 and 2017 are rebuilding years". I'm ok with that, but just needs to be kept in mind. elrockinMT
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) See, this is where you are wrong, it isnt about complainers. It is about getting whatever value you can out of a drastically underperforming player in the last year of his contract. What does holding on to him accomplish? The mistakes he is making are worse than a youthful mistakes, he should know and play better. Tim Anderson probably wouldnt come up, i could see them going with beckham or sanchez the rest of the way. Regardless, Alexei's contract and play are both very heavy albatrosses on the white sox this season. This makes all the sense in the world, the Sox arent going to have Alexei at SS next season We will make moves I think but you don't trade just to trade and get some class A player with no mobility. Alexei is having a down year but his past has been pretty strong. Really if you say Ramirez is underperforming so dump him you actually are including 24 other roster players

This right here. iIRC, the Mets were peddling Jon Niese and/or another veteran pitcher ( forget the name) to upgrade SS and make room for Snydergaard. Snydergaard for Alexei was started on this board.
